After a month of intensive work, I believe I've about reached the limits of what chiropractics and acupuncture can do for me for Migraine. I still plan to continue with chiropractic care and acupuncture for my general health but a bit better Migraine management is the best I've gotten on the Migraine front.
It appears that the problems in my spine were keeping the nerves from my collarbone upward in a state of constant inflammation. That made me primed for a migraine 24/7. Having nerves constantly irritated by spine problems would explain why I have never gotten good results from early intervention meds. The nerves never got a chance to 'calm down' because the degeneration, bone spurs, scoliosis, misaligned Atlas bone, and slipped C-6 never gave them a chance. The adjustments do seem to have reduced the constant feeling of nerve pain I had. I can touch my head and face without the feelings of tenderness I had before. Acupuncture has helped my energy system overall, and did help nausea the one time it hit while I was at the chiro's office. My most significant observation for my own situation is that chiropractics and acupuncture are great for overall health--I'm slowly feeling better as a whole--but I still react to triggers, still have attacks, and still need to manage Migraine. The chiro and I had a big discussion about whether Migraine was "cured" when a person reached good control. Of course it isn't cured! It may be managed, but as long as the attacks come, it isn't cured. I didn't approach chiropractics and acupuncture looking for a cure for Migraine or Meniere's. There is no cure for either right now. I can report that no, they didn't cure my Migraine either! basilar-type migraine, MAV, BPPV, migraine with and without aura, cluster headaches, but no tension headaches! W00t! |

Hi MW,
Thank you for your update. Anything we can do to reduce our Migraines is a good thing in my book. |

Thanks for the update MW!
I toy back and forth with the idea of acupuncture. I don't know if I would go back to chiropractic - since I used to do it for years. I don't know, it kinda scares me now. I think my next step is going to be Botox and I am very interested in finding out about Biofeedback. My neruologist who has pretty much released me at this point - thinks that because I have so many TTH's, this would help. He thinks I have a lot of anxiety and high strung personality, which is true. I mean, I'm a perfectionist and I get very anxious over things - but it's not what some say is "Migraine personality" to him. Interesting that when I brought up "Migraine personality" he said he does not believe it it, yet he pretty much just told me that's what I have. HIGHSTRUNG?AREYOUHIGHSTRUNGTOO?IAMSOHIGHSTRUNG!!
I wish I had a dime for every time my girls asked me to PLEASE lower my intensity level! One Assistant Offspring is high-strung like me and the other is as calm as a deep river. Both are migraineurs. I'm just not sold on the "Migraine Personality" theory myself. Addressing it doesn't seem to cure migraine. I do incorporate stress reduction and relaxation into my management plan but they seem to have more effect on nausea and vomiting than any of the other aspects of Migraine. Worth doing for the nausea and vomiting relief though, fo'shizzle. basilar-type migraine, MAV, BPPV, migraine with and without aura, cluster headaches, but no tension headaches! W00t! |
