Has anyone tried any type of magnet therapy? I just saw this on amazon

Magnetic Adjustable Headband for Headaches and Migraines
Product Description
A magnetic head band is a very basis and functional strap that is placed around the head, much like a sweat band and is worn at the onset of a headache/migraine. A small price to pay for relieving symptoms of headaches and migraines. Magnets are known to stimulate hormone production with in the body, it is this action that makes magnets extremely effective in the prevention and treatment of migraine headaches. When magnets are placed around the head the electromagnetic pulses generated by the magnetic field will cause increased electric activity with in the brain. This increases conductivity between neural pathways, which in turn stimulates the areas of the brain that are responsible for hormone production, namely the hormones serotonin and melatonin. Serotonin is the hormone that controls mood, commonly associated with migraine, stress and depression. Melatonin is responsible for the internal body clock, it is associated with insomnia, seasonal dysfunction disorder and migraine. Magnetic fields around the head will gradually over a period of days increase the bodies levels of serotonin and melatonin plus magnets are known to increase the blood levels of endorphins which are known as happy hormones as they give a euphoric feeling, they also are the bodies natural pain killers. The combination of the increase of these 3 hormones will help prevent the onset of a migraine or if you already have a migraine it will be less intense plus the duration of the migraine will be greatly reduced.

I tired to paste the picture, but couldn't get it to do it.(in the middle of a bad one - sorry)

Any thoughts on this?

Yep. I've got some ideas and comments.

First off, there are no studies that prove that magnets do anything at all for migraine.

Second, that said, I've tried magnets myself, not in the form of this headband thingie, but a necklace. I didn't notice any effect of the magnets on my migraines, good or bad. What I did notice is that within an hour of putting on the necklace, it would "stir up" something inside of me. I became edgy to the point of agitation, and felt strangely "buzzy", as if I was vibrating inside. So...the magnets did something, but that something wasn't at all pleasant. Nor was it beneficial.

I think though, that this is a highly individual thing. Some people do seem to think they help. It didn't cost much to try it out myself. Your mileage may vary greatly.

Thanks,Droolie.

I figured it might just be worth the $12.99 to try it out. I have spent much more on many other things. I am all about anything that will lessen my pain or make me more comfortable during a migraine. I'm just not sure how I could wear that headband along with my icepack headband - lol.
Thanks for your input.

Have a great week,
Sherry

The iceband/magnaband combo just might look rather fetching, in a certain low light. Hee Hee!

I think I paid about $20 for the necklace. I figured that was pretty cheap for an experiment. I know what you mean about being willing to try all the little things like this ~ any port in a storm, right?

You're very welcome for the input. I'm just glad I could help.

Droolie: You just reminded me of Sherry who posted that her DH brought her home the inside of a hard hat band so she could strap it to her head.

Aaahh, the things we are willing to do!

Exactly, I stopped caring years ago about how I looked when entering the ER. You will know me by the roll of TP, the bloodshot eyes and the constant crying/mumbling I do. I have probably scared a few people by accident! Razzer

i work at Wal-Mart and trust me I'd rather see you vomiting in the ER than 40% of the people I have to look at during a shift at work.
Of course I can say that seeing as how FREDRICK and I are such raving beauties. My Costco card photo, complete with fredrick prompted this response from my DH.
" In Your picture you look like SATAN!!" Unfortunatly I have to agree with him. I swear my face is deformed in the photo. But who cares? not me.

That may not just be Frederick causing mischief - I look decidedly awful in my Costco photo too! It's even worse than my driver's license. Roll Eyes
