I have recently read this article:
http://www.helpforheadaches.com/articles/iv-meds.htm and would like to bring this treatment up to my neuro at my next appointment. Can either of you suggest an objective way to bring up this type of treatment (something other than dumping the article on his desk lol)? |

If your doctor is worth going to, he will productively discuss anything you take to him.
I would take him this same article as published here as it shows that Dr. Krusz and I wrote it together. IV Treatment of Refractory Migraines as well as a copy of it from HelpForHeadaches. The articles sections here don't support the table like I put in the H4H article. You'll see from that table that not all doctor's offices are set up to do this type of IV therapy. Hope this helps. ![]() Teri Robert Lead Expert, MyMigraineConnection terimmc@helpforheadaches.com

Hi Teri,
That just happens to be the exact article that I was speaking of. I have it in a folder and highlighted and all sorts of jazz. My Neuro isn't typically "snobby" about treatment suggestions-I am a bit gunshy however-as I have had doc's in the past that seem slighted when you suggest anything outside of their own treatment. I've dumped THOSE folks immediately. I suppose my biggest concern is the WAY to bring it up. Doctors here so much self dx these days (the internet doesn't help lol)... that sometimes it's hard. My fear of rejection is the drive here. I am almost 15 years into this and 70'ish medications. Most doctors look at my history and shy away. I give my Neuro credit-he keeps trying. But I know in his heart, he's of the same opinion. Just irks me... |

I'd be sure to take copies from both sources so you have the one with Dr. K's name as author plus the table from the other one.
Sorry to say that there are so many people here, I'm not sure exactly what your situation is. That article isn't about preventives. It's about IV treatments to stop long Migraines or cycles of Migraines that aren't responding to your typical meds, Migraines called intractable. Is that where you are? If so, you could lead into it by saying that you're very careful about where you get your information, and all the content on this site is reviewed by a doctor who is a Migraine, headache, and pain management specialist. That usually helps. Then, you could just ask if he thinks that kind of treatment would be beneficial. Please keep us posted?
