Hi Teri,

In lieu of what we talked about the other day, I found this blog/article about the MIST II trials and wondered if you had seen it.

Scientific Misconduct/MIST II

Taking into consideration the implications of this shutdown and what Dr. Smith told me previously, do you think it will have an impact on other PFO/migraine studies around the world? Any other opinions? I will likely talk to Dr. Smith or Banks next time I see them about it anyway; I don't know what they'll have to say about it but I wondered about your opinion too.

I saw the press releases about discontinuing MIST II, and wish I knew if there was really more to it than the expense, which is what NMT gave as the reason for stopping the trial.

I have trouble putting much weight on what that blogger said because of his calling Dr. Dowson a "so-called headache specialist." Dr. Dowson is very good and very dedicated. The blogger also pointed out that he's not a neurologist, but we all know that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine specialists, and I know some quite good specialists who didn't start out as neurologists.

Maybe Dr. Smith will have information that I don't. So far, I haven't really had a chance to talk with any doctors who may have info.

Thanks Teri. I'm just afraid of the impact this could have on my own study. I would think since they are two differing companies and researchers that funding is different too, but it's disheartening to see something like that shut down that could potentially help people. And it just seems suspicious.
