Gretings Teri
I do apologize for posting here but I am a bit on the anxious side at the moment. I had thought that I had seen in one of the threads from a while back that you might have some further info on hemiplegic migraines. I know you are a busy woman so I thought I would ask as I have about exhausted what I can find. I am in a bit of a fluky situation with mine and the HA specialist thinks there has to be an underlying causation or trigger that has led to this result. This is apparently not the first time that I have been in a situation where I have attacks running over each other and given the severity of the neuro symptoms we are hoping to find the "root" of the issue. I am due to have an ultrasound to look for possible PFO on Monday. Anyway I thought I would ask you also since you have such a wealth of information gathered here Thank you so very much for your time, hugs and peace Julie ~Due to the dysphasic speech disturbance of the hemiplegic attacks some words may be miss placed or phrases may be mis -worded. I do spell check but please bear with grammatical errors |

Juliekay,
No apology necessary. This is why we have this folder. I know you've already see the basics article on HM. There's also this one, [ Hemiplegic Migraine - Genetic Testing May Be Helpful. Nancy and I also had the opportunity to attend a session about HM at an American Headache Society conference. Here are some pieces of info we gleaned from that...
On the PFO issue, keep in mind that its role as a Migraine TRIGGER has not been verified yet. Clinical trials to determine how much Migraines are reduced by closing PFO are still underway. If it's discovered that you do have a PFO, you will not be able to get it closed for Migraine unless you get into a clinical trial or get special approval from the FDA (which is exceedingly rare). In the UK trials of PFO closure for Migraine, the device reduced the frequency of Migraine by 37%. Now, that might seem like a lot, but keep in mind that in the average clinical trial, placebo (the fake treatment) often has around a 30% success rate. Sweetie, you are understandably anxious. I understand that. Would you like to talk on the phone over the weekend? If so, email me at the email addy below in my signature. Give me your phone number and a good time to call, and I'll call you. I don't care about weekends-- I don't have to leave for another conference until October 2, and I'll be here all weekend except a bit of time to run some errands. If you want to talk before Monday, please DO email me. OK? ![]() Teri Robert Lead Expert, MyMigraineConnection terimmc@helpforheadaches.com

Teri,
I saw on one of your share posts...I think that is were I read it??? Anyway, it explained hemiplegic, I wanted to say thank you soooo much!!! I have a few different types of migraine and a type of cluster, I have always felt alone when my vision goes, so does my balance and well you know the rest for hemiplegic. My family at first thought I HAD TAKEN SOME PILL TO PRODUCE THAT AFFTECT! I can't explain how lonely that made me feel. I did want to tell you your post/share post/or blog, I do not know which one it was, really was informative and I wish so many would read it. I am sending it to my family members...OF COURSE WITH YOUR NAME ATTACHED BECAUSE YOU WROTE IT! But I do want to say thank you for making it easy for the **lamen** to understand. As you know people that are not migraineurs or that are not in the health field are sometimes hard to reach. I though it was beautifully writen and very understandable for someone who has no clue that your body can produce you to look that way! I hope you are having a migraine free day! Truly Liz Seeing the world through the eyes of a migraineur! Hope you are migraine free today! Liz www.migrainecommunity.blogspot.com |

Liz,
You're quite welcome, and thank you. You may be talking about the article Hemiplegic Migraine - The Basics. I've written a series of "Basics" articles that people have found helpful. Whatever it is, I'm glad it's been helpful to you. It's nice to know that something I wrote is making things a bit better for you.
