Hi Teri and Nancy,

I came across a news blurb yesterday, citing a recent study published in Brain showing that no vasodilation is present during Migraine attacks.

I tried to track down some research on this article, and found a response written in the same journal as a letter to the editor, contradicting the findings of the study. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a copy of the letter without shelling out some money.

Anyway, I was curious if you had heard anything about this recent research.

News article: Getting ahead of Migraines

Journal article: Migraine Headache Is Not Associated With Cerebral Or Meningeal Vasodilatation - A 3T Magnetic Resonance Angiography Study

Response letter: Re: Migraine headache is not associated with cerebral or meningeal vasodilatation—a 3T magnetic resonance angiography study

I'd love to hear anything you can dig up on this.

I saw that too. I don't know how much weight to put on it. Maybe I can email a couple of people and get some info. Stay tunes. :-)

Thanks, Teri! I was especially curious to see what the response letter to the editor says, and of course that's the one thing I can't find without buying the article.

I'm looking forward to hearing what you can find out! Thanx

I'm wondering if any research was ever done to establish that vasodilation occurred or if the concept was accepted from clinical reporting.

I don't seem to have vasodilation that I can observe in myself but quite the opposite--I go white and my lips turn blue. Imagine taking a vasoconstrictor in that state. I just don't do it.

I don't get good Migraine relief from them anyway. They help with cluster headaches but not Migraine.

If that editor's response is more or less that can't be right because it just can't then I'm going to be disappointed.

basilar-type migraine, MAV, BPPV, migraine with and without aura, cluster headaches, but no tension headaches! W00t! Smiler

Some people on this forum, and others that I know, can observe vasodilation from the outside during a migraine attack--blood vessels at the temples are obviously bulging.

Yes, the vasodilation has been observed via imaging technology.
