I know some of you have said seeing the dentist triggers you - I know some have said it's the bright light that shines in your eyes.

Anyone just have the sheer work done on your teeth that trigger you?

The kids and I had a dentist appointment today - when I picked Nikoli up from school I told him we were going to the dentist. Then he asked what we were doing tonight and I said, "well, I'll have a migraine...."

Never fails.

Oh yes, Deb, I'm right there with you. I don't think it's just the fluorescents that trigger me. It's also having all those dental instruments vibrating in my mouth. Too close to my sensitized nerves, if you ask me.

I had my 6-month cleaning a few weeks ago, and it triggered one of the worst migraines I've had in a while. Thumbs Down

I've been very fortunate- I've had 6 root canals, and many cavities filled, and this never triggered a migraine for me. Hope you're feeling okay tomorrow.

I suspect the dental work itself, at least major dental work, triggers me. It comes in close to the trigeminal nerve.

Hi Deb,

I get migraine pain after nearly every dentist appointment. For me, holding my mouth open that long worsens my TMJ pain--that's always a trigger. Also, just holding my head still in that awkward position doesn't help either...

I sure hope your migraine has passed by now!

Yes! In late February and early March I had scaling work done on both sides of my mouth. The first visit, I had the right side done. The next morning I had a "quick" migraine. But 6 days later, in the evening, I had a full blown doozy. Didn't realize the correlation until my next scaling appointment. At the second visit, they did my left side. I was okay for a few days and then exactly 6 days later, got another bad one.

So I believe that those were triggered by the work that I had done or else the novacaine being injected into my jaw. Overall, I had 4 migraines during the period of time I was going to the dentist. It's been several weeks since then and things have been better. I don't think it was just a coincidence.

For me it is never a definate yes or no answer. Sometimes it does trigger a migraine and sometimes it doesn't. Normally, if it does trigger a migraine the migraine doesn't hit until hours later, sometimes even the next day. Strange huh?
