I remember reading somewhere that some meds won't work if the headache is too severe. (or something similar to that) I guess I was wondering since this headache of Sarah's has been going on since January with no breaks could it be too difficult for the Botox to work on it. And, if Dr. K can break it I wonder if the Botox will start kicking in and help us out. Maybe I would just like to know my $1,000 didn't go down the drain.

Preventive medications won't work if you are experiencing medication overuse headache Medication Overuse Headaches.

Maybe that's what you're remembering?

You may be right. I don't think that is what we are dealing with. Sarah is very careful to take only her maintenance meds and seldom takes heavier stuff even if she is really hurting. Maybe that is something I need to double check on Monday though.

Thanks for your info.

Melanie, from my understanding, there's still some debate about this. It sounds pretty likely that Dr K will want to do some in-office IV treatments with your daughter, and those are more successful with severe intractable migraines than other treatments have been, and in that case may help the Botox to work. And Deb is correct that preventives won't work if MOH is the issue. But beyond that there aren't really any clear-cut answers when certain treatments will or won't work.

Does that help? That wasn't much of an answer. I haven't seen Dr K myself but quite a number of our members here have.
