Last weekend we had temperatures here in the high 80's to mid 90's. It was only for a few days, and then suddenly it dropped from 94 degrees to 55 degrees with wind and rain and I am began having symptoms similar to a real bad attack I had last fall. I get dizziness with my headache and I feel the nausea creeping up on me now.
I am new to this diagnosis so I am wondering if anyone else has weather as a trigger and what can you do about it? Is there an effective drug to stop an attack while in the middle of one or do you take them at the onset? I am beginning to realize how hard this is to manage. Frowner

As always, welcome to our forum family, but sorry you are here.

Weather is a very common migraine trigger. I can always pretty much count on a migraine when there is a rain storm coming in.

As for abortives, if you are using Triptans (imitrex, relpax, zomig, etc) they are more effective the earlier you take them. It is really best to take them as soon as it starts.

One of the key things in managing migraines is trigger management. Now, you can't change the weather. But you may have other triggers that you can avoid. Try keeping a migraine diary

Good luck!

Changes in the weather are very common triggers. I sometimes get migraines when there's a sudden drop in barometric pressure, a thunderstorm, or if I'm out in intense heat and sun. I used to react even more strongly to the weather, but my preventives have enabled me to survive some weather changes without a migraine.
