Does anyone watch the Fox reality show Hell's Kitchen? (Okay, I hate reality TV, but I love watching the head chef yell at people)
Anyway, one of the participants last night said he had a migraine. At first I thought "Great, another person misusing the word" but he did seem to be experiencing some of the cognitive impairment associated with one. He seemed completely inable to concentrate on anything. So he might have actually had one. Or he could just be an idiot. Of course everyone else on the team was saying "its a headache, get over it". I was maaaaaddd... If anyone else watched the show last night, I'd be interested to see what everyone else thinks. |

Saw that last night and it made me mad! What also makes me mad about it is the fact that everyone was saying he was crazy when it was very obvious that he was suffering from a podrome phase. The knowledge that someone with migraine disease was able to make it that far was encouraging. Matt wasn't probably the worst of the cooks in the last 6 but he definitely had some interesting snafus. So I don't think that it was discrimination against him that made him go but I'm sorry to see him go. Mary in NM |

I'm addicted to Hell's Kitchen. It's one of my fave guilty pleasure shows.
I don't doubt that any of us that watched that episode didn't prick up our ears at the mention of migraine and watch much more critically from that point on in the show. I'm never 100% certain of anything where Matt is concerned, because he's a very reactionary person, and is rather sensitive, so I tend to take him with a proverbial grain of salt. But after watching carefully, I think it's plausible that he was migraining during service. The reactions of the others weren't surprising at all to me, though. Pretty typical from people that don't experience migraine, and don't get it. Considering that he did complain of numbness and loss of feeling in his hands, I don't fault Ramsey one bit for making him leave the kitchen. I think Ramsey was also more sensitive toward Matt about the situation than the clip showed. He seemed brusque about it, but I think that was more heat of the moment as everyone was falling apart than it was insensitivity. I don't think the migraine had anything to do with Matt's eventual ouster, either. I think it was cumulative, and it was time, though I'd rather Jen had been booted first. Nancy make sure you go to Fox's network website so you can watch the episode from last night. They usually post them within 24 hours. I have had trouble with the player being choppy but I have been able to watch the whole show this way. Mary in NM |

Okay, I'm glad we share the guily pleasure.
Droolie: I get the "grain of salt" thing w/ Matt. What got me, is as spotty as he is in service, he never showed trouble remembering/understanding the orders when Ramsey shouts them out before. All I could think of is how I can barely follow a sentence when I am migrianing... I didn't even pick up on the loss of feeling in hands... I also think Ramsey was probably nicer about it than shown. They never show Ramsey be nice during service. If they did why would we watch?? (Btw, I wanted Jen gone too. I HATE that girl!!!) Nancy: Definately check it out if you can. I'd be interested to hear your take on it... |

Thanks for the tips.
I think poor Matt is a little "creepy". He always has those weird looks on his face, and I know he wasn't Migraining all the time. Get this--Bobby----is from Western NY |
