I've recently found out I have breast cancer and after surgery will start chemo. After chemo I'll need to take progesterone and oestroegen medication for 5 years. Being 47 I understand I will go into a menopause when chemo starts and would be unlikely to come out of it as I would be 1 year less than mum was when she went through menopause naturally at age 54 when I come off meds.
Mum said that she stopped getting migraines at menopause. I"m wondering if the same thing will happen to me but also whether the sudden not natural menopause would have a different impact. What have others found re sudden menopause and migraine (for any reason) Also with chemo (although I'm sure that varies with the type of chemo meds) |

Sometimes menopause does bring an end to migraines for some women. I'm *thinking* that I've heard some posters mention before that menopause due to hysterectomy did lessen their migraines. I think it might indeed have a potential impact on stopping migraines. It's really all about hormone levels, and if memopause of any kind, either natural or induced, tweaks the hormones into just the right levels for you to see migraine stoppage, then I'd say you've got a chance. I'd assume that this is highly individual. Hopefully others who have gone through these things will be along shortly. I can't speak from experience on either the cancer treatment or menopause. But I did want to boost up the support in your corner. Dragondrool Forum Moderator ~~8=:>>>> |

DJ,
I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Best of luck with your treatments. And we'll all be thinking about you. I don't have any personal experience with any of the questions you asked but I hope someone else can come along with something to share. Just wanted to let you know I was thinking about you. Meli |

Hi DJ,
I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. My thoughts are with you for a speedy recovery. I'm not sure if this situation is any different than when menopause stops on it's own terms. Some women's Migraines may be better after menopause, while others may not see a difference in their Migraine frequency. Let us know how you progress, ok? |
