I know this might be a huge coincidence, but I just read online that the new New York State Governor David Paterson checked into a Manhattan hospital this morning with symptoms of migraine. He was diagnosed with acute glaucoma in his left eye and underwent a procedure to relieve the pressure.

No mention was made of a pre-existing migraine condition, but it caused me to wonder if he already had migraine disease and could possibly be on Topamax. Just a thought. I haven't read anything that said that and I know the incidence of acute glaucoma with Topamax use is extremely low, about 1%, isn't it?

Perhaps he had an unusual aura and he thought it was a migraine. Does anyone know?

Oh I thought the same thing!!! I'm not sure if he had pre existing migraine disease, but my first thought was Topomax.

Okay, my first thought was "I bet he didn't wait 3 hours in a room of screaming kids to get treated like a drug addict"... I guess I'm a bit bitter. Embarrassed

I was also disappointed it turned out to be glaucoma and not migraine. I thought we were going to get our 15 minutes of desperatly needed fame and attention. Frowner

It's hard not to be cynical when you've had the bad experiences most of us have had.

Living in NY I haven't heard a thing about topamax. I don't think we will. But wouldn't it be nice to know...

Given that Governor Patterson is legally blind, glaucoma may have been an issue for him in the past as well. Of course I'm just speculating - but it's also possible he has Migraine. Wouldn't it be interesting to know?
