I'm reposting this in the right spot......I am a 28 year old female who had what I think was my first migraine 2 months ago. I started with seeing the weird lights that looked like a snake in one eye and thought I was going blind and then got the headache on the other side of my head with nothing else. Then, 2 months later it happened again except everything was on the opposite side and I had bad nausea and had trouble getting my words out right. I had just got over what I think was the stomach flu, throwing up the whole day a few days before. I never had sensitivity to light and the headaches lasted about an hour but I felt bad the rest of the night. I was just wondering if these are migraine symptoms or could be something worse. I haven't been to the doctor because I have no health insurance at the moment and do not want to be put on medicine besides over the counter. I was a few weeks away from my period when these happened. Is this something will happen more often? I'm convinced its a brain tumor. Hopefully someone with experience can help. Thanks.

Welcome,
You have come to the right place for a great deal of information. While we cannot diagnosis you, we can provide you with information to help you understand what is going on. First a link to Understanding Migraines. This will give you a great deal of information of types of migraines and to help you better determine if in fact this is what you might be dealing with. The best route of course is to be diagnosed by a doctor. Are there clinics in your area you could go to that would be low or no cost to you? Migraines are a neurlogical disorder and you need treatment to abort an attack. I personally have not had success with over the counter medication for migraines. I believe others might have and they will share their experiences. Under Migraine Triggers there are suggestions for migraines diaries. They are very helpful for tracking what could be triggers for you, espeically since this is something new for you. Please let us know if there is other information we can provide or direct you to. There is a great deal of support and inforamtion here. Again, welcome, Cindy |

Welcome SR!
Glad you are here! I'm sorry to hear you've been having these painful episodes. It is important to be checked out by a dr. to rule out other issues and to get a diagnosis. In the meantime, Cindy gave you some great links to information that I hope has helped! Please let us know if you have anything else we can help you with! Hi, SR. Welcome to the forum.
I hope you will seek out a sliding-scale clinic or something in your area. Your county health department may be able to direct you to a source of care. If you get to see a doctor, and he/she wants you to have medication, see this web site: www.pparx.org for information on programs that could provide the meds for you. Good luck in accessing care. I know it can be difficult when you don't have insurance, but it's important. |

Welcome, SR. Glad that you found us. Like Cindy said, we can't diagnose you over the internet, especially since we're not medical professionals, but we can certainly offer you lots of information and support about migraine disease and headache disorders.
Learning About Migraines and Headaches - Where to Start Take a look at that article as a good place to start. I will encourage you to find a way to get to a doctor. Migraine is a genetic neurological disease that requires proper treatment and ongoing care. The first step is seeing a doctor for a diagnosis. Others have given you great suggestions for ways to do that even without insurance. Let me give you the warmest possible welcome. We're happy to have you. -MJ my blog: http://rhymeswithmigraine.blogspot.com/ “HOPE CAN GROW FROM THE SOIL OF ILLNESS!” This is the theme of 2008’s National Invisible Chronic Illness Awareness Week in September.
