Ok, I have an appointment with Dr. K for March 17th, and miracle of all miracles my local Dr. had a cancellation today and can see me, so I will get to talk to him about Dr. Krusz and make sure he's on board with the idea of me seeing another specialist before I just haul off and see someone new, and risk alienating the Dr. here that I love so much. He really doesn't bring a lot of personal ego to his practice, so I think he will be fine with me seeing someone else if it could help me.

After reading Dr. K's web-site and the research stuff he has done and other info I could get online, I guess I am questioning whether his specialty is dealing with treating and stopping individual migraines or with treating the disease and patient long term? So much of his research regarding IV treatments and even some language on his web-site seems like it targets treating a single migraine and keeping someone out of the ER or hospital setting instead of treating the entire disease. Am I wrong in reading things this way? He sounds wonderful, and I need to try something new to see if I can improve, but I will be traveling almost 6 hours, my husband will be taking off work for those 3-5 days they say I should be there, and my parents will be helping me pay for the significant cost of treatment there, and I want to make sure I am not borrowing so much money and traveling just to learn how to treat individual migraines, you know? I hope that doesn't seem smart-aleck-ish. I don't mean it that way, I just already have stuff to take that can keep me out of the ER, and I just need to find a way to keep the migraine frequency low enough that I can treat each one and possible begin to have a life again.

What is your experience there? Is he the right guy to try next? Like I said, he sounds so wonderful, and his practice seems so wonderful, but it's just the language used on his web-site and his research that makes me wonder if he's who I need.

I see my regular Dr. to talk to him about Dr. K at 4:30 this afternoon, so please give me your opinions as soon as you can! Thanks!

Julie,

I just posted in your other thread. Smiler

I understand how you feel about bringing another doctor into the mix too. I wasn't sure how my local neuro would feel and he is fine with it as long as I keep him informed and in the loop.

Please let us know how your doctor's appointment goes today when you get the chance, k?

Julie,

Sorry I didn't get an answer to you before your appointment. Dr. Krusz works with patients toward long=term disease management AND acute care. Does that answer your question?

No, I didn't see him. After talking to my doc, and my concerns about the money, we decided to try to find someone in network. My doc knows a few Dr.'s personally at Diamond and at Jefferson. I can travel farther (thanks to my husband's and brother's multitude of airmiles) and see someone in network than I could see him, and of course, if I see someone else and still want to see Dr. K, then I could. I am waiting for my doc to figure out where he thinks I should go. He was going to check into some places closer to where I live, but who knows where I will go.

Truthfully, I am a little bit better at the moment, because of Lyrica, I think, so I am OK with waiting and seeing how things work out.

Good luck with your appointment. I hope you find the help that you need there!
