Migraine

Hi everyone, my name is Helen. I guess you could say I am desparate. This thing called migraine has overtaken my life. I now have migraines almost daily & am terribly ill with them. Nothing so far has worked, I have tried many horrible drugs and stick to the anti migraine diet like glue trying to avoid any possible food triggers. I feel so bad that my little daughter has a sick mother. I realise that's not my fault but I guess it is natural as a mother to feel grieved when you can't give your child the best. If anyone has any ideas or anything that has worked for them I would love to hear from you. Until today, upon discovering this site, I felt so alone as I hadn't heard of anyone else who suffered as frequently. Reading other people's stories had me crying, I guess it was just the knowing that I'm not strange and others get them this often as well. I used to be a bubbly sociable person who loved people. Now I have to hide away because I'm so sick & any sounds make me want to vomit. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks so much to you all, Helen.

I'm so glad you found us too! I have found lots of great support here. And I have learned so much about how to help with managing my migraines.

Are you seeing a headache specialist? It is important to find one who specializes in headaches/migraines. Here is a link to Working With Doctors.

Also, have you been in pain for 72 hours without a 4 hour break from the pain? If so, you might want to check this link on Status Migraine. If this sounds like you, you'll want to consider calling your dr. or going into the ER to get the cycle stopped.

You are definitely not alone. We're here for you.

Thank you so much! This is like a load shared, I thought I was alone & don't tell people how sick I am because I feel like a moaner. I live in New Zealand & I guess because we are so small, my neurologist was a bit surprised at my symptoms because most of my migraines are generally without much of a headache but my head still feels like it's going to explode - I know it sounds strange. I have read through all the fantastic info you wonderful friends have given. I did go to the ER once but the doctor just gave me painkillers & anti- nausea pills plus a huge bill. I am going to talk to my GP about this status migraine as it's something I wasn't aware of. Thank you so much for relieving the guilt and loneliness with this beast. I'm really grateful to you lovely people for writing back. Would love to get to know you better. Any more to share would be fantastic. Thanks again, Helen.

HI Helen- Welcome! This is a wonderful group of people with a lot of knowledge and experience- I have recently joined myself and have received so much love and support! Please continue to ask questions- I don't know a lot myself, but there are so many others that do. It's amazing so many people are willing to give their time and hearts on this website. As for your ER experience, I know the times that I have been, that is all they have done for me- but at least the cycle was broken and it did get me feeling better. Looking forward to getting to know you better!

I'm so glad I found you all. I can't thank you enough for giving your time and advice. I feel differently already just knowing there are others in the same boat. There is only one migraine support group in NZ and it is having to close in several months due to lack of funding. Our government doesn't recognise migraine as a disease. That #####. Well, sweet people, thank you again, I'm going to obtain as much knowledge as I can from your experiences and this site. Hoping for a good migraine free week for you all.
