Wow ty for all the responses!
Megs, I too find it very interesting how many ambidextrous replies there are! HMMMMM vedddy interestin!!! Think we are on to something here?? Tracie, My son TJ is very dyslexic with dysgraphia. He does fairly well with math except for trying to memorize things, or measure with a ruler using say 1 1/4 inch etc. which is weird, as he has a bit of a photographic memory with many other things! Though he can add and subract fractions just fine, he just doesnt get the sequencing on a ruler and such. if he is asked to show his answers and how he got to them, its a huge frustration, as he does math in his head. he cant say HOW he got the answer, but he gets the right ones! he does better with algbraic equasions! at age 9 he has been able to answer some of my 10th graders problems, though he cant say how! Reading and writing are HUGE problems for him though! Particularly writing. He is starting to work through his reading a bit better, as long as he isnt tired, or distracted. He just cant do it for very long with out frustrations. Any writing assignment is a huge battle. unless I let him do it verbally while I type his words for him. I am in the process of teaching him to type. Anyway wow I went on a WHOLE nother tangent didnt I! sorry yall Thanks for all the responses! |

I'm ambidextrous too, and like Megan, had tests to determine which side of the brain I "used most". I ended up being 49% right brained and 51% left brained, so I am fairly balanced as well.
I think those tests largely determine where your focus is based on answers given, and which side of the brain typically responds to the problem or emotion presented. I like to tear things apart and determine how they fit back together. I'm an artist, but I don't generally consider myself "creative" per se, because I tend to break objects down into component parts and "rebuild" them through the use of pencil and paper. So I don't take a traditional method to drawing, and I don't tend to deviate from my methods or subject matter, nor do I have the ability to think abstractly. So whereas creative art and the pleasure of viewing it or creating it may come from the right side of the brain, the construction of it comes from the left, where logic and spacial ability rule, because without spacial ability, you cannot render things realistically, and I use the human body in classical rendering, as well as in cartooning. But I can remember being very frustrated in many art classes because I did not have the ability to abstractly render a piece of art in the ways that my peers did, and it wasn't from lack of trying! I just cannot do it, in the way that people who depend on the right side of their brain for that specific ability can. And I admire those artists a WHOLE lot. I ramble! I hope the point got across, lol. |

I'm a righty.

I'm left handed-that's why numbness on left side of body is very annoying. My 14 yr old son is left handed, and my 12 yr old is right handed. But they are both extremely right brained (Asperger's). My son is dsygraphic and dsycalculic. His writing is horrid, the ot even went so far as give him a keyboard to use for his school assignments.

I'm right-handed but can play piano which requires both hands very much. I'm also considered 'creative' which is another right-brained thing.
I'd say 99% of my Migraines occur on my right side, if that means anything. If I ever have one on the other side or on both sides, it's a doozy.... |
