A friend of mine sent me this video, and I thought I would share it with you all. Here is the description from the site:
"Neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor had an opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: One morning, she realized she was having a massive stroke. As it happened -- as she felt her brain functions slip away one by one, speech, movement, understanding -- she studied and remembered every moment. This is a powerful story about how our brains define us and connect us to the world and to one another."
I thought it was interesting and somewhat frightening how I recognized some of the experiences she accounted... although I have never had a stroke, it seems that some of the symptoms overlap with migraine attacks.
This video made me feel uneasy. I think it's because migraine aura symptoms and stroke symtoms are the same alot of the time. I asked my neurologist if I would be able to tell the difference between the two...and he said probably not. It does scare me that someday I might have a stokre and not even know because I think it's a migraine. I wouldn't get to the doc in time for help would either have severe permanent damage or die. I'm sure a lot of you feel the same.
e, Thanks for sharing. Jill Bolte Taylor's story was really interesting. I've often wondered if I was having a stroke if I would recognize the signs as a stroke or if I would think that I was having a migraine. It's a little distrubing to me.
