Fledgling |
I'm going to keep this brief because my head is killing me and the computer screen is driving me nuts. I woke up with a screaming headache, my fingers are numb, and I am so dizzy I can barely walk. I am so frustrated. I took my relpax, that helped for about three or four hours with the pain anyway, but has already worn off, I assume the trigger here is the weather, it is very cold and windy. I am just frustrated. Any suggestions on how to make the dizzy go away? It is making me very sick to my stomach! Thanks

I get dizziness, often between migraine attacks. We thought it was the Flexeril I was taking, and it got much better when I went off it, but it's still there. I sneak one of DH's meclizines, and that helps a good bit. (DH has a chronic inner ear problem.) It's available OTC as Bonine, and it's marketed as an anti-nausea drug, too. Of course, don't take anything without notifying your doctor. Ask your doctor to prescribe the generic. Much cheaper to pay the generic co-pay of 3 cents a pill rather than 50 or 75 cents for the Bonine OTC.
Ask your doctor about doing "vestibular exercises." They're really easy, and I think they help with the dizziness. You do things like lie down on the bed and turn your head from side to side. When you get dizzy from it, you hold that position until the dizziness goes away. You do sets of 3 or 4, and there are 8 or 9 different exercises. It's supposed to re-train your inner ear, and get it used to handling those changes in position normally. My neurologist wanted me to do this first before resorting to the meclizine (the brand name is Anti-vert). Do you have phenergan for your nausea? If you're throwing up, the tablets won't be much help, but it's available as a suppository. My favorite nausea remedy is Real Coke out of a bottle. A can won't do. And saltine crackers. Gotta be careful with crackers in the bed, though! And it has to be Real Coca-Cola. Sam's Choice or Big-K just doesn't cut it. When we were sick growing up, Mama gave us tea in the good china teacups and dry toast. I think using the good china -- which was NEVER used -- helped as much as anything. Are you allowed to take another Relpax? I don't remember all the half-lives of the triptans, but I know that at least Frova has a longer half-life. Frova's is 24 hours, and you might get longer relief. Of course, you might have tried Frova already without success, but it's a thought. I hope you get better very soon! Gretchen in Mississippi |

Sorry to hear you are feeling so poorly.
When my doctor prescribed me Relpax, the box says I can take another pill in 2 hours if necessary, max of 2 pills a day. Now, that is my doctor, and NOT medical advice, but how one can take relpax(unless your doctor says otherwise) How about some crackers for your tummy? I can't think of anything for the dizziness, except no sudden movements. Hang in there sweetie. |

Sorry to hear you feel so dizzy!! And migraine to boot! Ugh!!
Do triptans help the dizziness for you? I know my Frova power helps that for me most of the time. Hope you are feeling better soon!! I think we have the same ticker too!!! Frova seems to help longer only when I take it early on when I feel the migraine coming on. Relpax seems to work quicker, but last a shorter amount of time if I've waited too long. If I'm feeling dizzy, lying still, applying ice packs to my head, and rubbing a mixture of lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus, and sweet almond oil on my temples( I make the mixture myself) and breathing this in seems to help with the nausea. Hope you feel better soon!

Sorry I am late on this. I hope you are feeling better today.
What helps me is dramamine. My dizziness and nausea is basically motion sickness, caused by the movement of my eyes back and forth on the computer. I know, weird right? Since I almost always get really sick to my stomach w/ a migraine, I take a dramamine with my Relpax to head it off at the pass. I never take two Relpax (I was told I couldn't) so if my migraine comes back I take a rescue like Vicoprofen or Fiorocet. It stinks though because the second the pain meds wear off the migraine comes right back. Hope that helps a little |
