Hi ALL,
I posted earlier that I have been having some "weird spells" with this migraine. Basically, I zone out and it takes a few minutes to respond. I have fainted twice and have had at least one a day for a week now. I saw the local neuro- EEG and CT scan were clear. He wanted to talk to the neuro at UAB before doing anything. I have also left a message with the neuro at UAB (primary neuro) to see if he has any ideas. I should hear back tomorrow morning. This whole thing is really scaring me. I am going to try and stick it out till morning to see what my neuro at UAB says. Still, even though I absolutely hate going to the ER- it may be time. I am going to try to make it to tommorrow morning, but if I do not hear anything, I will probably have to go in. What do you think about this plan>? thanks sconesail |

I am new to this site but I think it is always ok to go to the ER if you are not feeling well... I think the "zoning" out thing is really scary esp. if you are not able to respond to people. If you are not going in, make sure someone is with you at home. That way there is another person to help you or even drive you to the ER if needed!!

Hi Sconesail,
I am no expert here but I have read your post from 2 days ago, and I would seek medical attention as soon as possible. You have been suffering way too long, and there could be something else going on. Please seek help asap and let us know how you are doing Lori |

Hi Sconesail
I'm sorry to hear that you are having to deal with these problems right now. If you are questioning whether or not to go to the ER, you should probably go. I hope you are not alone right now. I think it would be good if someone was with you and keeping an eye on you. Please keep us updated. My thoughts are with you. Jean Ann |

Sconesail, I think you need to trust your instincts on this and go to the ER. None of us like to do it but I know you've been scared about this zoning out thing. Can you take someone with you?
I'll be thinking of you. Sweetie, I know the ER isn't a fun place to be when we are in pain however you need to go in order to get that migraine broken. I'm sure you've already seen this article but it's time to read it again:

Sconesail,
I'm thinking of you. Sounds like you've been in a lot of pain and have had some scary episodes. I hope that by now you have gotten some info back from the neuro on what to do and/or have gone to the ER to get some relief. Let us know how you're doing when you can. I got the results from the CT yesterday- it was normal. As wass the EEG.
THe UAB specialist was not in yesterday and is in clinic all day today. I haven't heard anything back from him yet. I spoke to his secretary and his nurse this morning and explained the situation. (However, I still have wait for the dr to look over some stuff) They both told me to try and wait for tomorrow, if not- go to the ER. I am going to try to survive the next 14 hours and see what he has to say or if he can order the IV Depakan to be done at the IV center here. So I should hear back tomorrow- if not- I suppose I will have to go to the ER. You are right- if I do end up going, I will probably push more for headache treatment than the weird spells. I am just so tired and scared right now. Haze aboslutely no idea of what to do right now- the pain is off the charts- (the medicine brings it down to a 9?10) I am really freaked by the pain now and am trying my best to get through till tomorrow. Oh, I wish things were going better for you. It really sounds like you need intervention ASAP. It sounds like it might be time for the ER. The sooner you break this cycle, the better. IMO, if you haven't gone to the ER by now, it's time to go. In addition for the pain to be this severe this long, you deserve better. Going to the ER is taking care of yourself, doing yourself a service, and doing a good thing for your family and loved ones.

Checking in with you, sconesail - how are you doing? Did you hear back from your doc? Did you end up at the ER? We're thinking of you.

Hi All,
Thanks so much for your support and understanding- it means a great deal to me when things are bad. The headache is down some, though it is still between a 8-9.5/10. The meds are helping some. I talked to the local neuro yesterday and am now on a course of steroids to break it- as well as some extra pain meds. He also said he would do the IV, but wanted me to try a steroid dose pack for a few days, I finally got a call from the UAB specialists who wants to do a 24 hour video EEG. She wanted the local neuro to order the procedure. However, when I spoke to my local neuro's office about it- they said that n one in Montgomery does this type of EEG- and that they send all their patients to Birmingham for the EEG. So I called the Birmingham dr back and told his assistant that I had spoken with the local neuro and no one here is set up for this kind of test. She replied- "Well, then it sounds like it is something that needs to be done here". So I am waiting for the nurse to call me back about the EEG. As it stands right now- the headache is an 8.5 now- I am hopping the steroids work soon. So it is basically a "wait and see type thing." I'll keep you posted. Pain free days, sconesail |
