I have been posting here about my son Luke...we finally got some answers today! Luke does have pseudotumor cerebri, or IIH. His pressure was 34 (our doc has 20 as high normal). It's so rare in men that our neurologist didn't think of it right away. Anyway, now starting treatment with diamox and have an appointment in the morning with an ophthalmologist.

We are so relieved to at last have some answers!

I'm so glad your son has some answers, and I'm thankful that he had a doctor who not only listened, but was open-minded enough to consider the long shot possibilities so that things could be sorted out. Here's hoping things are much better soon now that your son has some direction to go in! Thanks for the update! Smiler

I'm so happy for you! I can only imagine the relief you must feel finally having some answers about your son.

I take Diamox as a Migraine preventive and I haven't had any bad side effects from it at all. In the very beginning my feet would tingle but that went away after a few days.

I'm sure you've seen this article but here it is just in case:

How did the appointment go yesterday?

Hi Lukesmom,

I am thrilled to hear you have an accurate diagnosis for your son. I see you have the link for Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH -formerly called Pseudotumor Cerebri, PTC.)

Diamox is the standard medication used for IIH, but I was unable to take it due to unwanted side effects which is unusual for me. I now take methazolamide. Seeing an ophthamologist is very important to make sure everything checks out with his eyes.

Let us know how he makes out, ok?
