Hi Guys

Thanks to all your good wishes, prayers, and kind thoughts, I thought I would let you know my progress. I saw my orthopedist on Thursday and have done quite well. He took me out of the sling except in public (then I'm supposed to wear it to encourage people not to bump my arm).

He was pleased at the degree of mobility I had achieved and could tell I hadn't overdone it. My primary physician had called him and discussed how he planned to do my pain management, and he was really impressed by that.

However, taking the sling off has given me quite a bit of extra pain this weekend. I had to add another 25 mcg fentanyl so am wearing 50 mcg this weekend. My primary wanted me to be able to maintain less pain so I can increase my activities to the degree the ortho has in mind. Hopefully, the worse pain will only last a few days since I have a month's worth of unused muscles.

So far the migraines have remained in control. When we dropped from 50mcg to 20mcg of Fentanyl about 7 days ago, that triggered a small migraine, never above a 5 on the scale, but lasted my normal 3 days. Of course, we were also in the middle of good ole Texas crazy weather, who knows what was the actual trigger.

Anyway, I'm clear to start back to work, can drive when I feel ready (although that won't be until I ain't hurting you can bet!)

Sorry to say I'm a long-g-g way from the back of a horse. I have 4 weeks of "passive" p.t. now. My work duties will be limited too. No reaching, stretching, or lifting for 4 weeks. Then after I see the doctor again in a month, I should start therapy to regain mobility. Once I have enough mobility, as in close to 100%, then I get to start back riding. I have hopes of maybe beginning to ride by May. Luckily, Lori, my friend, is enjoying riding Harmoni. She may show her at a few shows the first part of the season. She needs 12 scores of 62% or better toward her next judge's card. Her own horse can be a bit hard to get over a 60% on, but Harmoni will make it easier for her because my horse has better gaits (looks fancier when she's moving) and that can make all the difference between a 60% and a 62%.

Just wanted to let everyone know that things are progressing at a good clip. I worked my first full day at CVS Friday. Had my own special technician just like they promised. The shoulder is still really a pain but I'm off of Fentanyl and just on Hydrocodone. My primary wants me to try to wean down over the next two weeks, am unable to go longer than 6 hours so far, but I see the Orthopedist on Friday, and will go see primary the week after that so we can reevaluate the whole situation. I should be starting active PT which will be unpleasant. But I'm doing so well with the passive PT I have hopes we may be able to get thru this more quickly.

I really have hopes for CVS. They are talking about starting discussion groups at stores, and have approached me about anchoring one for migraineurs. That would be cool, huh. I you trade at CVS you might mention how you would like to see them start groups like this.

Thanks for all your good thoughts!

Thanks for the update, Tracie. Sounds like you're doing well. Slow and steady, right? And that's so cool that they've approached you about anchoring a group for migraineurs! Thumbs Up

I couldn't wait to update everyone about how much all of your good thoughts and wishes have helped me in my postop progress. I saw the orthopedist yesterday! We're ready to start strengthening my shoulder and BEST of all I can get on a horse in a week so long as it "won't buck me off". I plan to spend the 5 weeks between my "get-on" date and my next appt. practicing on my riding balance on my old horse who knows if he was to buck even once he would be barbeque!!!

The pain is totally under control too. I can't take NSAIDS so I still have some narcotics to help when I need them, but this week, the pain went from a periodic ache to being somewhat sore, so am doing great.

Thanks guys

Tracie
