I have sound to colour synesthesia.. whenever I hear particular sounds I see certain colours (hence the reason why I can't stand particular sounds) I've only really had this since I've had migraines (since I was around 13-14 years old I'm now 20) and it seems to be more intense when I have a headache or even seems to be part of a prodrome a couple of days before I get a migraine...

For those of you who don't know what this is...."Synesthesia is a neurologically based phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway"

I'm fascinated to know as to whether or not any of you out there experience some form of synesthesia whether it be sound to colour synesthesia or another type... (have a look online for the definition of other types)

I'm curious to know if it is related to migraine... and even whether or not different types of synestesia are related to different types of migraine...

so if you have any funky synesthetic experiences leave a comment and also if you feel comfortable... leave a comment about what type of migraine you get too...

This should be interesting... Thanx

I admit, this is a new one to me...I've never heard of this before but I'm definately interested to see if other members share a similar experience.

Hopefully, someone will pop in to share their story soon.

We actually have had a discussion about synesthesia in the past. You can find it HERE, if my search worked right.

That's really fascinating droolie...

I'm sooo tempted to get my student doctor friend to do a study on it... but it's a hard thing to actually do a thesis on because sooo many people have synesthesia but they're unaware of it...

I'm sooo intrigued... I'm interested in how different subtypes of synesthesia affect different subtypes of migraine.... and whether or not they're related somehow...

I think I should take up neurosciences lol... it's just sooo interesting!!

There's a real interesting fiction book by Karen Ball where the lead character has synesthesia. It was the first I'd ever heard of it, but the book was fascinating, even though it was fiction.

Hmm, interesting. I've experienced that sometimes with a particularly bad migraine and loud sounds, especially when my eyes are closed. Once my husband dropped something that clattered loudly on the floor, and I saw a bright flash of red behind my eyelids. Another time a car zoomed loudly past the window and I saw bright yellow (though I was turned away from the window). It's an odd sensation!
