How old everybody was when they got their first migraine? Is it normal to get them at 28?

Welcome "home"! I'm sorry for the reason you are here, but glad you have found us. There are a lot of good people here who can help you find answers.

I can remember getting pretty bad "headaches" when I was in 6th-8th grade. Never went to a doctor, so was never diagnosed, but they were classic migraines.

1st semester Jr. year of college, I had several migraines. I was 20.

I had migraines off and on over the next 20 years. They became a pretty constant fact of my life 13 years ago. I'm 54 now, & expect to have migraines for a long time to come. I also expect to manage them better and better as time goes by.

28 is not young. We have posters here who are in their teens, and posters whose children are quite young.

Hi SR28 - Welcome. I got my first migraines in my teens - not sure when, but when I had ones that were diagnosed in my mid-20's, I could remember having had them for about 10 years.

Sorry you have a reason to be here, but welcome!

I had chronic daily headaches since I was 13 but didn't get my first "real" migraine until I was 40. They have become more frequent and more severe over the last 10 years. (I am 50 now).

Hi SR28, I'm currently 24 and suffer from chronic migraines. I've had daily migraines for several months now - I've had this particular migraine since November. The first migraines I can remember I had in my early teens, though I wasn't diagnosed until I was 20. So you're not alone!

I had my first migraine at around age 6, according to my parents. I don't really remember a time when I didn't have them.

First of all, Welcome to the Family! And like everyone else said, sorry you need to be here.

I started getting the occasional migraine in my mid 20's, but I didn't realize what they were until about 2 years ago. They went from an occasional inconvienience to a chronic problem this past July.
(Coincidentally, right after I turned 28.)

Hi SR28,

Welcome to the forum Flower I really don't remember having migraines as a child, just the aura, mainly in my teenage years. My migraines started when I was 36 then really started raging this year at 44. I think you can see by everyones response that you are not alone.

You have found a great place with wonderful supportive people. I look forward to your future posts.

I got my first migraine around 13.

They did not become a pattern until I was about 25. Then they became cronic when I was - yep, 28!

You didn't mention how many migraines you are getting, or have gotten. I assume you've gotten a diagnosis at this point and know for sure it is migraines.....

Just know that there is hope out there. If you are getting 3-4 migraines a month, then you would definatly be a candidate for preventive treatment. And with over 100 preventive options out there, don't give up!

Also this article may be helpful, when looking over our site or when speaking with the doctor: Preventive, Abortive and Rescue medications: What's the difference???

If you have any other questions, come on back and ask!! We are a very friendly crowd here!! Big Grin Big Grin

Welcome to MyMigraineConnection, SR28.

Migraine is a genetic neurologic disease typically characterized by flare-ups, the Migraine attack itself. Migraines can start in early childhood and continue into our older years.

I was diagnosed with Migraine Disorder when I was 17. I've had migraines at least since I was 13 & I remember I would get headaches in elementary school due to all the stimuli in class (I had pull-out services then) & the worst was on the bus... I would get a raging headache & then fall asleep. There were many times when my mother had to pick me up at the bus depot because I missed my stop.

And yet, after 20 years of being officially diagnosed, the doctors still cant figure out any treatment plan!! <sigh>

My headaches started in 1970 when I was in school, so I was 20. They weren't diagnosed as migraines until around 1990 in the pre-imitrex days.

Greetings!

I remember migraines when I was 5, in 1964. Back, then St. Joseph's Children's Aspirin and a Co-Cola were my friends. Frowner
