I went to the eye dr for my follow up contact visit yesterday - you know where they see how you like the contacts, how they fit, and how you can see with them. Well, I was suppose to go back a week after I got the trial pair, that was 4 months ago! I have not been wearing them very much, since I have been staying home with horrible migraines almost all the time. Well, I was trying to explain to them why it took so long for me to make it in, and I lied about what illness I had! It is just that so many people do not understand migraines and think they are just "headaches" and I am so sick of people judging me for having this illness. Well, you know how much information has come out the past few years about fibro, right? So most people have heard of it, seen the drug commercials, etc. So that is what I told them was wrong with me! Is that horrible? I know I should not be ashamed - it is not my fault, but people just do not get it! Has anyone else ever done this? Do you guys think I am stupid or crazy for doing this? I would love some opinions on this!

Hi Sherry, it's good to see you again!

I don't think you need to feel ashamed about having Migraines at all, like you said, they aren't your fault, it's a legitimate disease. You're right, Migraine education has come a long way in the last few years and I wouldn't be surprised at all if your eye doctor is very familiar with them.

In fact, there are tests that eye doctors run for Migraineurs, so it may be important to let your eye doctor know what's really going on with you. I haven't had any of the tests done myself, but other members of the forum have. Hopefully, they'll swing by and let you know their experiences.

Take care

I don't really think it's stupid or crazy, really. It might not have been in your best interests, since to get proper treatment, you should have all the cards on the table. Trust me, plenty of people, including some doctors, don't believe in fibro, either. If they've made a note of fibro in your file, it might be tricky to get it straightened out down the road if you need to. Probably it's best to fess up, since this is already out there, and make sure they haven't put any notes in your file that might follow you in the future.

In the future, if they ask what's kept you from a follow-up, you might just say that you've not been feeling well, and leave it at that, in general, non-specific terms. Their curiosity doesn't entitle them to more than you care to share, unless it might directly influence your care at the visit in question.
