Welcome to the Migraine Forum Chrissy,

I am so sorry you have had this migraine cycle so long. I can understand how you feel as I have gone through the same things myself.

Please contact your doctor. There are additional steps that can be taken to break this cycle. My doctor has given me a steroid pack to use in just this type of situation. If you have had this migraine for more than 72 hours without a 4 hour break while you are awake, you are likely in Status Migrainous

Please contact your physician as soon as possible. Even if you have had breaks and are not in Status, excessive treatment can lead to Medication Oversue Headaches

Please let us know how you are doing and if you are able to get the treatment you need. Frankly after this long I would seriously think about going to an Urgent Care or Emergency Room. You do not want narotics, they are not likely to help. IV Treatment for Refractory Migraines.

Good luck to you Chrissy. We are always here. I hope to see you back.

Hi Chrissygal,

I'm concerned about Status Migrainous (see Status Migrainous - The Basics). If your 2-week migraine has lasted for more than 72 hours without a solid 4-hour pain-free period, you should go to our doctor or the ER. It's important to break this migraine. Some of the treatments may be:

IV Treatment of Refractory Migraines

IV Lidocaine – Effective Treatment for Refractory Migraines in the Clinic

If however, you're in a 2 week cycle where the migraine comes and goes, then is it possible that you're in MOH (see Medication Overuse Headache), or rebound headaches. This is so common.

If it's not this, then I'd still go seek help to stop the migraine cycle. Do you have a migraine specialists?

Best wishes, Tonya

Wishing you a HM-free day,

Hi Chrissy,

Hello Chrissy and welcome to our forum family! Our goal is to provide everyone with the information and support that we all need to manage our Migraines and/or headaches. To that end, we consider this a “safe harbor,” where nobody tries to sell us anything, and we all use “family-friendly” language so parents are comfortable letting their children read the forum with them.

Please take a few minutes to review our policies and guidelines along with the other information in the START HERE folder. For information about Migraines, a good article to begin with is Learning About Migraines - Where to Start.

Now that the "official" stuff is taking care of, how are you doing. Have you had a chance to talk to your doctor, or make an ER visit to break your Migraine cycle? My Migraine Specialist has given me orders for when I need to visit the ER. I either receive IV Magnesium and Steroids or DHE, either one usually works well for me.

Please swing by and let us know how you're doing, okay?

Hi, Chrissy!

I can only echo what the others have said. Usually things like steroid dose packs and IV meds are given to help break stubborn cycles. You really do have to pay attention to the possibilities of status and rebound (MOH), too, though, so you should ask your doctor about those as well. I see the others have given you the links. What have you found out today about your doctor's plan for you?
