Migraine

Hi Ladies,

It's been awhile. I've been having a nasty spell of attacks but things are calming down. I have an MRI tomorrow and hopefully will get some answers.

I have some questions...

I keep having these strange feelings on my face.

I have a tingling sensation. It's not a tingling like I get in my feet which I'm used to from my Topamax, this is a whole new feeling that has been going on for a few weeks now. It's a very light tingle and the only way I can think to describe it is it feels like either static or spider web is on my face and I just can't seem to get it off. It tickles my nose and makes me feel like I can't breathe sometimes and it's awful when I try to sleep. It drives me nuts to the point I will constantly check to see if something is there...it never is.

Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

Good to hear from you again, but sorry to hear you have been feeling poorly.

Have you discussed these new (are they new) symptoms with your doctor? What are his thoughts? I really don't know.....

Migraine can often affect the trigeminal nerve, which innervates the head, face and jaw, so it is possible that your symptoms are related to that. However, there are a number of other conditions that can cause the tingling symptoms you describe, including viral infections, muscle or other nerve involvement, TMJ or even (not to scare you) stroke or other vascular conditions, depending on your age and other risk factors like smoking or family medical history.
I would echo what Nancy says: you should definitely tell your physician and give him/her a detailed description of when it occurs, how often, and if you have any other symptoms that go along with it - particularly if you have any weakness in other parts of your body (such as hands or feet), if you have any vision changes on that side of your face, nausea or vomiting, and so on. It might be worth calling your doctor in advance of your MRI tomorrow in case he or she wants to make any changes in the scan (like adding contrast or getting additional images, etc.).
