I bumped into a friend who I haven't seen for several months and we both started talking about our recent health issues and it turns out we have both been diagnosed with migraine and have very similar symptoms. Both of us have atypical aura symptoms (loss of vision, slurred speech, confusion, loss of sensation in right side of body, no headache and ultimately loss of consciousness) which started within a month of each other.

Don't know if it is co-incidental or whether their may be virus' which cause migraine symptoms and thought that if anyone would know it would be on this forum.

Any ideas - am I grasping at straws?

Hi Kerrie, in my unprofessional non-medical opinion, I would think it is most likely coincidental as migraine is a genetic neurological disease. It's possible you may both be experiencing hormonal changes that triggered your migraines at the same point in your life, but no, there are no viruses that *cause* migraines.

Hi Kerrie,

I agree with MJ on this one. I believe that migraine disease is caused by genetics and overactive neurons in the brains of Migraineurs and certain things trigger the migraine but are not the cause of the migraine. Of course this is my own understanding of how it works. This would be a great Ask the Clinician question. Smiler
