Okay, I know this question probably doesn't have a specific answer, but is there any data on when migraines begin in children? Can they start at any age? My nephew is complaining of headaches, and he's just 7 years old. I'm concerned that he has migraines. Is this possible? His mom has migraines and so do I (his aunt on his dad's side).

They can begin at any age. My granddaughter had her first one at 2-1/2. Yes, it's possible that your nephew has Migraines. If there's a history of Migraine on one side of the family, a child has 50% chance of inheriting; 75% if there's a family history on both sides.

The generally long periods of time between my Migraines are the result of working with a Migraine specialist to refine my preventive regimen. You can see my current regimen HERE.

Thanks, Teri. That's what I was afraid of. I'll make sure my brother gets him checked out by a migraine specialist sooner rather than later. Poor boy. I was kind of hoping he just needed glasses, but his headaches seem too intense for that, and I don't want his to go ignored like mine were when I was a kid.

You're welcome, Jaclyn!

FWIW, my brother's Migraines have never been anywhere near as frequent or severe as mine. My nephew's have been far less troublesome than my niece's. My grandson's are very mild and infrequent, much less a problem that those my granddaughters have. It's not unusual for the males in the family to have Migraines, but for them to be less severe and frequent, and to reduce as they get older.
