I asked this question once before but did not get much of a response. Maybe I posted in the wrong place on the board! Does anyone have a child who receives SS benefits because of their migraines? I called Social Security and spoke with a counselor who gave me an appointment in 2 weeks to apply. I am just wondering if I am facing a losing battle. Any info. would be very welcome.

hi alison!

i applied for SSDI before i knew of this forum, but over at another chronic pain forum i visit, they have a whole area for SSDI applications and info. there is so much information and advice there.

this is maybe a good place to start:

i applied (myself) and was granted S.S. disability for migraines. no co-morbid conditions. i have daily pain. i'm sorry i don't have any experience with children.

good luck -- i hope you'll check out that site, there is a lot of good info there!

I second Emily's recommendation that you visit the But You Don't Look Sick boards. The leader of the SS forum there has tons of information about applying and will send you tips on how to approach your application to give yourself the best chance of success.

I would also recommend this book:
How to Get SSI & Social Security Disability: An Insider's Step by Step Guide by Mike Davis

It's a very intimidating process, but if you read everything carefully and ask lots of questions, it becomes a little less so.
