Hi yall! I know its been forever since I have posted. Been crazy around here. I do lurk though!
Anyway, My lil TJ hasnt been doin so great with his migraines. We saw his pedi. neuro a couple months ago, and he upped TJs maxalt dose as the 5mg was doing nothing except making it worse. The neuro also put TJ on Migrelief as a preventative. He doesnt wanna go anthing prescription if he doesnt have to. This last week TJ has had 3 migraines. 2 were relatively simple, and the 10mg dose of maxalt has been working much better. The 3rd one started pretty rapidly and hard on Monday nite. TJ still has that migraine. he is edging closer and closer to that dreaded 72 hour mark.. This is the first migraine TJ has had that isnt breaking. He is maxed out on maxalt this week and this migraine. Over the days, the migraine pain got milder, but never gone. I ended up taking him to the dr today and they gave him a toridol shot. It took the edge off for about 2 hours, but now the pain is creeping back. While its milder, the migraine still hasnt officially broke. He was at a 3-4 pain level when he went to bed. Heres fingers crossed that he wakes up migraine FREE! if not its back to the drs tomorrow, as there is nothing I can do here at home. I have a new appointment with his neurologest on the 23rd to discuss other abortive meds, and to discuss a treatment plan if his aborts dont work. This is a new phase for my son. Darn I was hoping he wouldnt get to that unbreakable migraines point. SIGH Tawsha and TJ |

I'll see your darn and raise you a dagnabbit! I'm so sorry things haven't been going well on the migraine front. Kids shouldn't have to go through things like status. I hope they find something that helps much better soon, Tawsha. Sigh. Dragondrool Forum Moderator ~~8=:>>>> |

Oh Tawsha!
I'm glad to see you here--I've missed talking with you! But I'm SO sorry TJ is having such a rough run! Poor little guy. I'll be praying that the doctor has a great plan for TJ that will have him pain free very quickly. I know how tough it is to see your little one suffering from migraine--I feel the same way when my DS6 has one. But I'm sure you passed on many wonderful traits to TJ, too--Your good looks, incredible intelligence, etc. Sending you lots of hugs: Let us know how he's feeling when you have a moment. |

AWW ty Jenny! I have missed u too! and ty for the kind words!
Ok TJs dr did have a great plan, unfortunatly the stupid ER didnt follow thru! GRRRR Tjs pain has been fluctuating from a 3 to a 7 with this migraine. Just so happened when we were in the ER, his pain was lower, and he was sitting up talking etc. My sons dr sent him to the childrens hospital ER so that they would treat it aggressivly with IV etc. The ER decided all he needed was another shot of Toridol, and a prescription of Toridol pills to take every 6 hours till the mig breaks. We already determined that Toridol doesnt get rid of the migraine, just takes the edge off yesterday DUMB drs! They didnt listen to me and discharged him with instructions to come back Sat. am if he still has the migraine. TJ is now over 72 hours. I HATE ERs!!!!!!!!!! As I was on my way home TJs dr called to see how he was doing in the ER and got VERY angry that they sent him home with nothing but Toridol. |

Hey Laura
His migraine isnt gone yet. It is decreased but not aborted. I have a call into the dr waiting to see what she wants to do now. The problem is, that it was just the primary care dr that is handling it, trying to work with an on call pedi neuro. My sons Neurologest is out of town this week. (GO figure eh?) She sent him to a childrens hospital thinking they would treat a kid properly. We have great success with Dorenbechers for other things in the past, but not this time! Anyway, heres hoping we get something figured out before we head into the weekend! The Toridol is just masking it not aborting. |

Hey there,
Sorry to hear about TJ. Do you have the ER forms(patient and doctor) from the site filled out and ready to go? These would be helpful to have TJ's doctor fill out and have his orders in place for the next time you end up in the ER for a Migraine. You too...You can find them HERE. |

Hi yall Another update!
First, Nancy ty! He has an appt with his pedi Neuro on friday I will print out those forms and get them filled out then! This is TJs first migraine like this, and from now on we will have these in place! Ok on to the news: Mamma had to be the bear cat today at urgent care. First the Dr just wanted to throw more narcotics at him and send him home. I put my foot down and said they wernt gonna mask it anymore and that he wasnt going to treat my son until he consulted with the on call pedi neurologest. So the dr did that, and they ended up doing IV fluids, anti-nausea meds steriods and oxygen. At first the neuro ordered depakene. Well the urgent care pharmacy didnt have access to that. So I told them they were going to send him where they could or talk to the neuro and see if he had other options. The neuro decided to try dexamethazone or whatever its called. Its a steriod. That got TJs migraine headed in the right direction. Its still not broke yet but way down, and sensitivites to light and sound are gone. The dr explained that it takes 6-12 hours for full effect of steroids to work. They also are putting him on predlesone for the next 5 days to try to finish breaking the status mig. TJ is feeling mmuch better, and I ended up getting my way. Also ended up kicking a nurse out of my sons room and getting another one, and getting a better dr that was for pedis to work with my son and the neurologest rather than the first dr who wanted to throw narcotics at my son. The first nurse refused to listen to me when I told her the arm she was trying to get an IV in doesnt take IV's, told her to use the ohter arm. She decided she thought she had a good vein and to try it, and ended up prodding tjs arm for awhile till I told her to GET THAT NEEDLE OUT NOW AND GET OUT! A second nurse came in and popped the iv right into the arm I told her to, no problems. That nurse ended up taking care of my son the rest of the visit LOL Anyway, Im sure they may not like me too much there now, BUT my son finally got the care he needed! So I dont care! Sorry for the book TY all for the support!! Heres hoping TJs mig keeps heading in the right direction! |

Good for you for going bearcat and standing up for TJ! Kids shouldn't have to just be pshawed and sent out the door. I know it's trickier trying to treat kids, because the options are more limited. You'd think they'd jump at the chance to get all the parent input they could about things like which arm is better for IV sticks and the like. You'd think every little bit of info like that would make their jobs easier. Sheesh!
They might not think much of you for having to go all feisty on them. But I bet your son is thinking the world of you right now for standing up for him and getting him what he needed. I would be if I was him. Dragondrool Forum Moderator ~~8=:>>>> |

TY droolie!! I agree with ya about the docs! and my son thanked me several times! He was very appreciative that I stood up for him! He is also happy to have the mig mostly gone. Still tender, pain goes up to like a 2 but i think its more postdromey than mig right now. He went to school today so we shall see if he makes it thru the day!

Tawsha,
You should be very proud of yourself for standing up for your son! Too many people go into a doc's office or ER blindly going along with everything the doc/nurse says. You know your son well! They should be grateful for your help and information! I'm glad to hear TJ's pain is lower today. I sure hope he makes it through school and comes home feeling better than ever! I often wonder why the docs think narcotics are the answer. That's what my ER likes to do for me, too. When will they start to see that other meds actually BREAK the migraine rather than just covering it up??? Sending |

Well TJ made it thru the day monday AND tuesday!! He is all back to normal!! Well he is a bit crabby from the predlesone, but other than that.. Mig is GONE! YEAAA
I hear U Jenny! I refuse to take narcotics and I refused to let them do that to my son again. I was willing to try the toridol, as that has had some success with somepeople, and we didnt yet know what would work for TJ or not. But from now on, if he gets in this again, we gonna hit it harder and NO narcotics. ERs dont treat me like im a drug seeker cause I always refuse the stuff LOL I think that ers just wanna treat the pain and make u leave.. like OH another mig case those take too much time throw narcotics at em and get rid of them. DUH like we wont come back in 3 hours when the stupid narcs wear off!! Anyway, ty for all the well wishes and thoughts in getting Trystin and I through his first status Mig!! Tawsha |
