Hi

I just wanted to update everyone on my saga. I found out today that my son has a lot of anxiety related to school. He has been complaining of stomach problems for about a month. We thought it was related to the neurontin, but now I don't think it is.

He told me this morning that he noticed that he always feels worse on school days and better on the weekends. Hmmm... I was beginning to wonder about that myself. I think he may have given himself an ulcer and this certainly isn't helping the migraines at all.

I spoke with the guidance counselor and we have put Andrew on homebound instruction. I'm gathering the names of some counselors who will be able to help Andrew through all of this.

I feel some relief, but I can't wait until school is out for the summer.

Thanks everyone for your support and kind words.
Jean Ann

Have you consulted the doctor about the possibility of an ulcer yet? These days, ulcers can usually be healed. I had one myself, healed several years ago.

I'm sure it will be an immense relief when you can put this school year behind you. Hopefully, things will fall into place now, and go much more smoothly until the end of the year. Hang in there!

I did take him to the pediatrician last week. He wasn't sure what to think and wanted us to wait until we saw our migraine specialist. That doesn't make any sense at all. I guess it's because the migraine specialist thought it might be from the meds. Anyhow, I asked if my son could take Zantac. He had used it after a in patient DHE treatment and it really helped his stomach. The pediatrician agreed and the migraine specialist also agreed. That seems to be helping, but I feel like someone needs to take a closer look.

Our pediatrician is way overbooked. He doesn't seem like himself right now. We were there for 3 hours the other day for a 15 minute apptmt. I am looking for a new primary care dr. for Andrew. I called a dr. today that I really like. I am waiting for a call back from him. We will go from there.

I sure hope the homebound works for you. I understand the stress the two of you are going through. My daughter goes to a private school and is a Junior. Fortunately our students can do some computer programs for classes when necessary so we have elected to do that with half of her courses. The other three teachers are fantastic working with her extra whenever she feels up to it. One has just moved down the street from us and works with Sarah in the evenings a majority of the time.

Keep us posted on his progress. I know I will be glad for this year to be over and I am sure you will be too.

Imma find a link for you, Jean Ann. There is a link between the helicobacter bacteria and migraine. Helicobacter is a stomach bacteria.

Be back in a flash. Angel

Edit: here we go -

Ask the Clinician Question about H.Pylori and Migraine

Reversal of migraine symptoms by Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy in patients with hepatitis-B-related liver cirrhosis Now I know this refers to people with cirrhosis of the liver, but the information is interesting. And it comes from the rat-handlers of nihm so you know that must mean something. XD

H.Pylori from Headaches.org

There were other articles that quoted these that I found.

I think homebound instruction is a great idea and I wish you guys a lot of success with it. I hope you find out the problem with Andrew's stomache.

Hi All

Things are slowly improving here. Andrew is catching up on old school work and I think his stress is going down. I think his anger is getting better because of it too.

I'm feeling a bit better myself. I guess I have come to accept the fact that this is going to take awhile, and I know I can get through it. Plus, he is going back to his father's this weekend so I will have a chance to recover and refresh myself for the battle ahead.

I spoke with the psychologist on the phone today. He sounds warm and friendly. I think Andrew will like him. Andrew told me again he won't go, but he has too. He is just trying to start an argument. I won't have any of it. (I'm so calm it's almost scary.) The appointment isn't until April 10th so he may relax about it by then. No matter what, he is going. Yes

Thanks for everything. Thanx
Jean Ann

I had an ulcer, 17 or 18. It was easily cured with Tagamet. Prilosec and Prevacid weren't around at the time. I can attest that Prevacid is great for reflux disease. I didn't have to make any dietary changes after the ulcer.

Good luck with the psychologist. I hope Andrew softens up before April 10.

I'm so lucky that my son only had ADD, so I can't imagine what you're going through with Andrew. Here's a virtual hug!

Jean Ann,
I'm glad you have some time to yourself this weekend. It will be good for you. A bit of peace and quiet is probably just what the doctor ordered!!

I am convinced that deep down, Andrew knows you love him deeply. THAT is what really matters. Knowing that, in years to come, he will thank you for the steps you are taking to assure his mental health and his academic options. In fact, although he probably wouldn't admit it right now, part of him is probably already thanking you.
