Ollie has been fantastic lately.
He is a completely different child. He has been back at school for a complete term with no sick days at all. He is up early each morning feeling well. We have had a pretty normal life where he is able to go and play after school with friends, stay up late, skip a meal, get a bit dehydrated, get a virus, go to the football and eat whatever he wants. In the past all these things would have triggered a major migraine event. It is hard to believe after all these years of being so unwell that he can finally do some of the things others take for granted. It is nice to let go after controlling every aspect of his life. He is still on Propanolol a beta blocker. I have recently been told that the dose he is on is much higher than a migraine preventative dose. It was explained to me that the beta blocker in a high dose reduces the blood flow to the brain and reduces CSF production. I have never heard that before but so far so good. Thanks again for all the help and advice over the last year. It is great to see Ollie being a normal kid finally after all that pain and heres hoping it stays that way. |

I am so happy that Ollie is doing so well!
It must be a big relief for you. Nikoli is on propanolol, 10mg. I didn't think that would have any effect, but he's not had a migraine since school let out - a month now. Can I ask, what dosage is Ollie on? Deb [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/] |

Hi Deb,
Ollie is on the 40mg per day...half in the morning and half at night. The 10mg is a migraine dose and 40mg is the dose for treating high blood pressure. It slows his heart rate down. It took a few weeks for him to adjust to this as he had nightmares and imsomnia but it is all good now. Just a bit out of breath at times but it does not stop him from keeping up with the other kids. He has only just turned 7 so I am never happy about the medication he is on. At the moment we are just happy he is better though. Glad to hear Nikoli is well. We are off on an outback adventure tomorrow so no computers for a few weeks but will check in when were back in civilisation. It is so cool to be able to go away and for the first time in years not worry about where the nearest ER is. |

I don't like the meds Nikoli is on either, but with his ADHD meds possibly causing high blood pressure and a high heart rate, I was kind of happy he went on the beta blocker. Have a good trip! The outback sounds so exotic! Deb [url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/] |

Daisy,
I am SO happy for you and Ollie! It must be amazing to watch him playing and acting like every other kid, without having to constantly think of the Migraines. What great news! I hope y'all have an amazing vacation, and that he stays painfree the whole time! Jamie Forum Moderator |
