Need a Dr. for a 10 YO who is having migraines. We've been to NY and to CHOP and can't find a Dr. who WANTS to work with us. This Dr. must be willing and available to return phone calls.

Any referral is greatly appreciated!

Hi

I don't know of any pediatric specialists in Northern NJ, but I can tell you about the 2 that I have worked with. I think both of them are excellent.

The first one is Dr. Yonker. She has an office in Delaware and one in Philadelphia. We only saw her for a short time before she referred us elsewhere. I did need to speak with her and she returned my call and spent a lot of time talking to me and trying to help. My son had a lot of treatment before we ever saw her. She tried a hospital treatment with him. When it didn't work, she sent us to another dr. Actually she gave me 3 options to choose from. She suggested Dr. Gladstein in Baltimore, Jefferson Headache Center in Philly or Cincinati headache center for children.

We are currently seeing Dr. Gladstein. I think he is an excellent doctor. If I had a problem today I would send him an email, and I know he would get back to my by the end of the day. When he was on vacation I had a problem. I emailed me and got a response to contact his office or try his cell phone. I called his office. His staff got in contact with him and got back to me. It all got taken care within that day.

I would highly recommend either one of them. We travel 4.5 hours to both of those doctors. It is well worth it!!!! Both of them are on the list of recommended doctors from this website.

Good luck.

I don't know if you have seen our link for Pediatric Migraine Specialists....There are not many near NJ on the list, but some of our members travel to see their specialists.

I did respond to you in your other question under doctors and clinics - I didn't realize you were looking for a pediatric migraine specialist and I am not sure if the person I see treats children. He also is just a Neurologist, not a headache specialist, although he does stay very on top of migraine treatment (compared to "specialists" and other neuro's I've seen).

Good luck in your search!!!

we used Dr. Damon Fellman, he's part of a pediatric neurology group in Hackensack....also in Rockland county NY... Dr. Lombard is excellent.

Thank you for the reply. Would you consider Dr. Fellman a "headache specialist"? We've seen so many neurologists and really need someone who specializes in headache. Thank you! Smiler

he was recommended to us as "the guy to go too" for migraines.... i don't know that he's specifically a headache specialist but try calling the practice and see? he's a bit quirky but very nice, easy to talk too. the only thing i didn't like was that when i asked what role hormones might be playing in my daughter's headaches he looked at me like i had two heads. he had my daughter keep a headache diary and initially put her on 150mg of vitamin B2.... then we did an elimination diet... then we discussed medication.

i actually preferred dr. jay lombard, in pomona ny. the only problem with him was sometimes he was hard to reach.
