Hello, David's MRI results were normal (thank God). Anyway, just saw some mucus in his sinus area. Not sure if maybe that is part of the problem. My grandfather said he got terrible Sinus headaches w/vomiting. Not sure if they were really migraines or not. He said no sinus.

Anyway, I guess we are on the next step of the journey. I have eliminated the Major food triggers and it hasn't helped. Hard to keep a kid away from Peanut butter and Pizza! Still getting the stomach aches too.

Thanks for all your kind words and support as we continue to try to help David figure these headaches and stomaches.

Oh, one more thing. I read up on the abdominal migraines and I was wondering... David's stomache will hurt and he will go to the bathroom sometimes/sometimes not. His stool is loose. ? are the abdominal migraines impacted by going to the bathroom or not?

Thanks
Cheryl

You must be so relieved. I'm glad that there wasn't anything in the MRI.

We went through the same thing with the food and never found any food triggers.

I don't know anything about the abdominal migraines.

What is the next step for you?

Hello, relieved....YES. I am such a worrier, I wish I wasn't but I guess it is part of being a mother too. 95% of me knew the MRI was going to be fine, it was the other 5% that worried it wasn't.

Right now the regular pediatrican is talking Claritan for the sinus issue. (The MRI showed some mucus in the sinus area, no infection though) So they think maybe trying Claritin to get rid of the mucus.
I think it is just the migraines and they are going to try everything else.

We'll see how it goes. I just don't want to try the blood pressure meds yet anyway. Thanks for all your support

I believe worrying is part of the job of parenting. I've been a basket case myself lately, and I can't stop. I understand.

When Andrew was younger he started taking cyproheptadine as a preventative. That is an antihistamine. It's a common drug for kids to use for preventative. We didn't experience any side effects. If he needs a preventative, you can mention that to your doctor.

Hope he is feeling well today.

I'm so glad the MRI was clean, Cheryl. You can relax now. Smiler

I don't know about the abdominal migraine, so much. I know that it can cause nausea, and I know that it can cause vomitting. I would imagine it could affect the digestive tract in other ways, too. That certainly sounds reasonable, and would be an excellent question for your doctor.

yea!! glad the MRI went well and everything checked out good!

Droolie is right, thats an excellent question to ask his neuro! I too would think the migraines even normal ones not only abdominal ones can cause digestive trac issues!

Do keep us posted on how Davids doing

Thank you for all your support. David started Claritin today for the inflamation in his sinus cavity. The Dr thinks the sinuses could be contributing to his headaches. I'll let you know if it is working at all. Thank you so much for your support and kindness, it means so much to know I have other who know what we are going thru. Take care

Hi Cheryl, glad to see that David's MRI was normal. What a relief! I mentioned this on your other thread but I'm not sure if you saw it. I frequently have loose stools with my migraines (not abdominal), so I would imagine it's possible with abdominal migraines as well. Definitely a good question for his doc though.

MJ, Hello I too experience the loose stool during Migraines. I always think to myself how strange it is. My head is killing me and it causes that effect. I understand the vomit but I never understood that one.

Anyway, I Andrewsmom mentioned that Andrew was on an antihistimine. The claritin is an antihistimine so it gives me a little more hope than just the shot in the dark I thought it was. David noticed that he hasn't had a migraine in 4 days now. He was so happy. He had pizza and peanut butter this week and didn't get a headache.

My husband took David to get ice cream to celebrate the MRI results, David got PB on top. My husband said that he felt it meant a lot to David to be "normal" and have something that he loved to eat before all these headaches.

Well, four days now hopefully we can get a full week. He tends to get them during school or when he gets home so we shall see how the week goes. At least he gets 5 days off next week (fri - tuesday). Thank you again

Cheryl

This is a little late in the posts but I wanted to share our abdominal migraine experience. Lauren's digestive system is greatly affected by her disease. Her neurologist told us difinitively that the digestive system can be affected/involved with migraines. For Lauren, her digestive system slows down. Migraines can virtually stop digestion which is why taking oral meds are sometimes not affective. Lauren has constipation rather than loose stools. She gets abdominal migraines, and stomache pain seems to be part of her prodrome (we have wondered if the stomache pain is actually a change in the digestive system). She used to get confused about the sensation of having to go to the bathroom and a prodrome. Even during periods of treated prodromes which never progress to migraines she will get constipation and have problems eliminating. Good luck and it was great to hear that the MRI was normal!!
