That's right. It's been one month since my last migraine. Which isn't to say that I haven't had to use any medications either. I've had a couple instances where I felt that a slight pain could turn into something more, so I took a Relpax.

I really think the success so far is due to going off my birth control Yaz and cutting back on alcohol. I don't drink during the week anymore and when I drink on the weekends, I really limit my beer. Maybe just one pint, two if I'm feeling lucky. I've also noticed that the dark liquors like rum and whiskey don't bother me that much. So I tend to drink more mixed drinks now. Believe me when I say that I'm not in any way an alcoholic, but alcohol is definitely part of my lifestyle. Cutting back has been hard (and tempting at times), but it's been worth it.

Hey Erin,
Congrats on finding some triggers and trying to reduce them. Great job! It isn't easy is it? My son LOVES chocolate, but that is one of his triggers. He made an "informed" decision when he ate a brownie last night. So far so good.
Maybe you should get a ticker like Teri for the bottom of your sig?

Mucho congrats on the month and on the Relpax working.

Beer, O'Doul's, and red wine have all been triggers for a long time. Bourbon and Scotch have become triggers more recently. Gin and vodka and light rum are OK. And tequila, except my husband can't stand the thought of it being in the house. He'll have to get over that, because DS has turned 21, and he likes tequila.

Chocolate turned up as a trigger a couple of years ago. Large bummer.

I was brought up in a good Catholic family. I know how nice it is to have a cocktail before supper. My grandmother had two bourbon-and-waters (100 proof) every day of her adult life, until she was 85. "A jigger of bourbon and a jigger of water. Measure the water. Don't drown my bourbon!"

My parents are 76 and 77 and have two vodka martinis every evening.

Just be sure that alcohol doesn't interact with any of your meds. It's surprising how many do.

Cheers!

I was told or read somewhere that the way your body removes the alcohol, it takes the meds out faster too. Is that true?

Just wondering, Bob

I'm here. I wasn't posting for quite a while because I didn't really have much to say. It's been a little over 3 months without a migraine. And by that I mean that yes, I've had to use my meds every once in a while when I've felt one coming on. However, nothing has made me stay in bed, get sick, or miss work. Last night was actually the worst I've experienced in a while. We went to the Cleveland Indians/Detroit Tigers game (Go Tribe!) and I had a beer. As I am still on my period, I suppose this wasn't the best idea. I started getting a migraine, so I took a Frova. That didn't help much. When the game started going in extra innings, I told my husband that I wanted to go home. Thankfully, he was good about it, even though he missed seeing the winning home run. I wasn't in a huge amount of pain, but I was still pretty uncomfortable. I went right to bed without taking anything else and today I am fine.

When I get a migraine, I alternate between taking Frova and Relpax. The Relpax seems to work a little more. I was given the Frova in order to take right before my period, but I don't do that anymore. Yes, I will wake up with the beginning of a migraine the first day of my period, but a pill will take care of that.

I'm still very cautious about my alcohol intake. I don't like doing it, but I know that's playing a big part in my ongoing success. I still find that I can drink rum and whisky pretty easily. And I usually have a window of about 2-3 weeks per month where I can drink almost anything and not be bad off the next day. Sometimes, when I'm feeling a little unsure as to how I'll feel the next day, I'll take a Frova before bed and I'm fine. I try to not make a habit of that though.

It's great to look at my prescription boxes and realize it's been well over 2 months since the most recent refill. So that's my update. I know I should post more often, but I feel bad talking about my ongoing success when I know that others on here have continuing migraines much worse than mine.
