The past 5 weeks have been, overall, the best stretch I've had since this ordeal started almost a year ago. For 3 weeks I was almost entirely pain free. Then I had a couple weeks of daily pain, but it wasn't the usual cycle of escalating pain that inevitably gets to the point of calling my neuro in desperation for relief. Instead, I had pain that waxed and waned between low to moderate with better and worse days. And for the past several days I've been almost entirely pain free again. I've only had one acute attack that was triggered by a bad decision to eat a big slab of chocolate cake, and I killed it entirely with imitrex STAT and ibuprofen. (Seemed stupid to use two of my precious few imitrex shots stingily doled out by the insurance company on chocolate cake Embarrassed Oh well. It was yummy)

So I'm feeling really encouraged that maybe this is real, enduring improvement. I may talk to the doc about bumping up the beta blocker to see if I can't get some more pain free time. I still have some goals in front of me. I really, really want to exercise again. It's killing me to see the summer going by and not be out hiking. My boyfriend and I have booked a trip to Paris in September, and it will be my first plane trip since the fateful flight that started this nightmare. I'm hoping that my preventatives are working well enough that I can make it through this trip without losing my progress. I'm trying to save up imitrex doses to take with me. I asked my doc about using diamox right before the trip, and apparently it can't be taken with topamax Frowner He has recommended that I take ibuprofen for a day before the trip. I don't want head pain to ruin my trip.

It has been great to go through my days without thinking about my head all the time.

I know just how great it can feel to finally hit that good stretch, and to really be able to enjoy life and know that you can reconnect with the good days.

I'm hoping with everything I've got that this continues for you, and that you have more and more good days. I'm really hoping you are able to enjoy that big Paris trip.

It's nice to feel like you have the power to look forward to things again, doesn't it. Big Grin

Robin --

I take Frova about 12 hours before a flight. It seems to do a pretty good job. I may have head pain, but it's not migraine. Ask your doc.

I've tried Frova for my acute attacks, and it hasn't helped, so I'm not sure that would work for me, but I'll definitely talk to my neuro about it. I'm really nervous about the plane trips.

Yup, droolie, it is nice to look forward to things without the constant worry about my head. In addition to the Paris trip, I have a couple other plane trips planned before the end of the year, and if I make it through that without a major relapse, it will be a real triumph.
