So as most of you know - I get horrible menstrual migraines. I ususally get one every day for the week that I am not taking my Pill. Well - I have a success story - or at least for me it is!

This month - I got through my period with a slight migraine on Saturday and then another that went a little more intense on Sunday. All in all I only lost about 4 hours this week to Migraine. I am so happy! Usually I dred this week - It was not that bad this time around. I am still tweaking my meds for this - but I find this a MAJOR improvement.

This is what I did (really I'm surprised it worked!)
To start - I was later then normal - my pill ended on Sat and I didn't get my period till Weds - so Whoohhoo that gave me 5 days there.
  • I did not wear contacts the whole week
  • I took Melatonin every single night (except for Friday which I thought contributed to the Sat. Migraine)
  • I took Skelexin (sp) at the sign of ANY tension anywhere just to be on the safe side
  • I took my Frova only twice (Sat and Sun) at the very start of pain (since I didn't notice any aura)
  • I also started taking a magnesium (sp) suppliment on top of my multi.

I know it does not sound like much.....but it really helped. I was also trying to be really aware of how I was feeling, my triggers, avoided all cured meats (big trigger for me) and relaxed at the first sign of any pain or tired feeling. It really helped! I mean I'm still going to discuss other Pill options with my GYN but this is HUGE for me!!! I give myself a cake! Birthday Cake

Edit: And I forgot to mention - I know it's hokey - but I also wore a stone necklace my friend gave me that is said to help migraine. I have no idea if that helped but it made me feel like it did! LOL I'm still wearing it to be on the safe side! Big Grin I forget what stone it is - I have the info at home. It's the green one that's all I know.

To be honest I really don't know - I just know it's supposed to be a good suppliment for people who get Migraines. I know someone wrote a whole book on treating migraine with magnesium - I figured what the heck? Might as well try it - Pharmacist said it was ok to add to my current scripts and things so I did! Yeah there is few books, with nothing else in them, but info about magnesium and migraine. Razzer

I think there is a whole theory that people with migraine do not have the appopriate levels of magnesium in their system, so that is something that might be causing the migraines. And some people do benefit from the supplements, so, why not. Or something to that effect.
