Hi all!

I just wanted to share with you all how well things worked for me last night! I was hit with a horrible migraine (aura, EXTREME pain, and vomiting hit all at once) as I was trying to put the kids to bed last night. I got halfway through Green Eggs and Ham (youngest son's favorite bedtime story) and just couldn't do it anymore. Handed off to my husband and reached for some meds.

My hands didn't seem to be working well with my head, so I needed a little help to get my DHE shot together. But I used it, phenergan and those CRAZY Lidoderm patches my doc gave me at my last visit. When I crawled into bed, I looked like a mummy with all those white strips on my head and neck! (I told my husband I was trying to add a little bit of excitement to his life by wearing a disguise to bed! Hmmm...For some reason he didn't buy it!!)

Anyway, I woke at 4AM COMPLETELY PAIN FREE!! It's been SOO long since an abortive actually worked for me I am thrilled!!

For now, I'd have to call the DHE a very BIG success! It worked in the two day infusion last month and it's worked well for me at home. It doesn't always take the pain completely away, but it sure does help!!

Yay for Jenny! As Droolie already said- that's "Cool Beans" in my book too. Cool

Yay for abortives working! Big Grin

Glad the lidocaine patches also worked! Did you find that it was easy to keep them on through the night? For some ODD reason, they just didn't stick on my skin once I started attacking with scissors... Roll Eyes

This is great news-I'm psyched for you! It's so wonderful to be able to use abortives that work for you!

Woohoo!

We had a kid at school that had issues keeping his med patches on once they were cut. To solve the problem, he used a bandaid to hold it in place. I suppose coban or something of that ilk would work too, if bandaid glue was irritating. You might ask about that at the pharmacy if you keep having them want to peel off.

So you put the lidoderm patches where you have pain? Can you elaborate? I'm tired of trying to rotate meds so I don't get into rebound - this sounds like a solution to that.

I had that problem- used the bandaids until my little sensitivity problem came up to all things applied topically with the suffix of "caine." From welts and skin lacerations on the neck to chemical burns in my mouth... Not worth it. Actaully, that's what prompted me to get a medical ID. Granted, it's a pretty one, but If I'm unconscious, I want those 'caine products not touching my skin. My dentist agrees- and won't touch me with topical benzocaine again. Also, every time he used injectible novocaine for then next several appointments he kept asking me if I'm okay every 3 minutes. Now we're up to about 15 minutes before he gets concerned and asks. (For those of you that don't know, Lucky me- I'm having quite a bit of dental work done. Final product will look and feel amazing...and also help with migraine issues- already has started to... but the pain factor isn't great for me, nor having my neck rotated and held in various positions. We've come to an understanding that I can use a cervical pillow unless it REALLY gets in his way. Nothing has been said yet, so I'm crossing my fingers Fingers Crossed and hoping that the rest can be done that way!)

Hi, everyone!

Thanks for all the replies!

Deb--Yep. The patches come like a single square (5" by 5" maybe?)and you can use scissors to cut them into strips. My doctor told me to put them in the areas where she typically does my nerve block injections. (i.e., on my neck, just below my hairline, above my eyebrow). The patches really don't stick well in your hair, so that makes things tough!! For me, they stick well to my forehead and temple areas, though. Don't think I'll need the band-aids Droolie and Jamie were talking about.

You can keep a patch on for up to 12 hours (which is great for me--I leave them on all night). I haven't really used them much during the day--like I said, you do look a little like a mummy with them all over your head! But if you're not planning to leave your home, they'd work just fine!

They don't make the area feel numb like my injections do. But for some reason, they have helped me a great deal (along with my DHE injections). The only problem is that they are quite expensive. If you don't have good prescription coverage, that might be a problem...

Anyway, they're worth a shot (if your doc agrees)! Try Googling "Lidoderm Patch" if you wanna read more.

Eva--you're right! The migraine Jenny is an awful lot to handle!! At least the mummy version sleeps without moaning, groaning, or throwing up!!

Jamie--I hope I NEVER get that caine problem!!! Thumbs Down It sounds horribly uncomfortable!!! One doctor along the line suggested that I have my wisonm teeth removed. He also talked about having a splint made for the front of my mouth to keep me from grinding/clenching. Haven't done it yet. There's nothing I like less than a dental appointment!! I go faithfully every 6 months, but I really REALLY don't like it!!

thanks again guys!

You are GREAT!

I had my wisdom teeth removed before my head got completely out of control, so I don't know whether that helped or not. My son's oral surgeon said that impacted wisdom teeth can abscess. His exact phrase was that nothing good would come from not removing them. DS had it done on a Friday and was fine by Monday.

I wear a night guard and have for years. Mine is a resilient plastic that fits over my bottom teeth. It helps with the pain that starts in my temples. It needs replacing every 6 or 12 months because I clench so much. If I notice I'm clenching during the day, I'll put it in. It helps.
