The depakote FINALLY starting working! Big Grin Big Grin
It took about 5 weeks (which is normal) but in the last 9 days I have only had TWO! The previous 9-10 day span I had six. Also, instead of getting migraines 3-4 days in a row, I just got one and then a few days off!

I am really hopeful b/c I have only been on 5-6 weeks now, and hopefully it will work even better over time. For the first time since July there is light at the end of my tunnel. Also, no hair loss and I actually lost 5 pounds. ( Though I think the wieght loss has more to do w/ me avoiding the fried chicken shack down the road. Wink)

Also, after two visits, it is confirmed I adore my neurologist. Heart

First off, she has a "mom-like" quality, which considering I live pretty far from my mom I find reassuring.

Second, I am convinced she has had migraines. I was explaining some of the difficulties with my boss who thinks I get "headaches". My neuro said "If you've never had one, you just don't get it."

Third, unlike most doctors, she is friendly, asked about my weekend, how other things in my life were going. We spend 5 minutes talking about our mutual love of pedicures!

It is nice to have hope. Big Grin

YES!! What wonderful news. I am so happy for you, so very happy.

I love the description of your neuro, while mine is not mother like, she is a very comfortable looking woman, very unpretensious, and easy speaking. Makes the whole appointment so pleasant. I joke that it's because she is in Berkeley and it just goes with the territory!!

Medications are so strange, it takes the Depakote 5 weeks to start working on you and 3 days for me. Good for you staying away from the chicken shack. Probably a good place to avoid on many levels.

Take care and congradulations Thumbs Up

Cindy

Hi Kat,

YIPPEE!! I'm so excited for you! What good news!

I had a neuro along the way who was a "dad-type." It seems that I do better with male doctors than females...Hmmm...I wonder what that says about me?!?

Anyway, I'm so glad the Depakote is working! I'm hoping that things will get better and better for you!! Fingers Crossed

A double success--a medication that works and a doctor who is a keeper.

I'm so happy for you.

That certainly sounds like a perfect combination, a good doctor and medication that works. Who could ask for anything more?

Thumbs Up

Kathinthecorner,

Don't give up yet. Your body is still adjusting, remember it can take up to 3 months. Maybe the dosage will need adjustment.

There is still one trigger I cannot tolerate, wine and mushrooms together. Doesn't matter my preventive, I'll get a nasty very violent migraine. Short lived. But I just avoid them Frowner which is very sad since I love them both and together they are wonderful. Oh well it's a choice.

Take care,

Cindy

I actually am not really upset. Frankly I think it is kind of funny in a Murphy's Law kind of way Roll Eyes

I'm not stressing it. I know it will take a while before it really starts to work.

I think it also has to do with what Cindy said, all preventives aside there are still triggers that will cause a mig no matter what. I think this was b/c those darn construction workers are back under my window! d'oh! Mad

thanks for the support guys. Hugs for all!! Group Hug

I'm thrilled that you love your doctor and you're seeing improvement already.

I'm even happier you are remaining positive and hopeful. I'm convinced that plays into my migraines. The more postive I am, the better I do when I'm migraining. Did that make sense? It did in my head Wink

Murphy's Law...ugghh! It got me too, I was bragging about six days of being pain free and got a migraine that night. LOL. I was still grateful for the six days though!

Here's to another pain free streak! Thumbs Up

I am on depokote ER 250 mg at night. Side effects so far
-minor gum bleeding first couple of weeks when brushing my teeth. It's stopped.
-Minor hair lose, this is getting to be less
I see my neuro tomorrow. I might be having some insomnia, but I'm also on topamx 75 mg at night so it could be from that, or the cold I've had for 2 weeks. That one is tricky.
