My cousin wou is a year older than me and who has been more like a sister to me, since I'm an only child often makes comments to me, with a sympathetic tone of voice, that "we have to figure out what is causing all your migraines" or "This is no way to live your life, what are we going to do?"
I know that she is meaning well and feels terrible that I've had such difficulty finding a good preventative, however, the comments just made me feel worse and often seemed to come out of the blue when I wasn't nessisarily feeling bad, but would remind me that I am "different". But I'm posting this under succsses because the other day she emailed me an article that she had come across about migraines. It was fairly well written and had a lot of information in it about how migraines are an invisible disease and the impact they have on the daily lives of those with migraines. I think she thought she was passing on valuable information to me, although I didn't learn anything new, what I was happy about was knowing that she had read it and probably gave her a very different perspective. I feel like when I try to explain what it is like she doesn't really get it, but I know for her to read it from a completly independent source probably made an impression. Maybe a small success but an important one in my book! Jayne |

I agree with Leeloo - It shows she was thinking of you. It shows she probably took the time to read it and pass it on to you, which means she may have learned something.
I think the hardest thing is to try and get people who don't experience Migraine, or any illness they don't have, to understand what it is like. Keep thinking positive - Maybe this is a good way for you two to be able to talk about it more openly now. Hey why not send her a link to the site here? She can poke around and read some of the articles and posts - I'm sure hearing how others, besides just someone she knows, talk about migraine, may help it become easier for her to understand (if that makes any sense). I think it's great that she took the time to read the article and acknowledge through sharing it with you that she cares.
