So, starting on Friday, I started taking Frova for my menstrual migrianes as a 5 day trial.

For the first time, ever, I aborted a migriane on day one. Crying Big Grin!!!

My migraines have always gone days without being aborted. My DH and I are still stunned with this Frova success. I have had to take the second pill each day. And the migraine has returned each day. But, hallelujah! Horray! What an amazing & freeing thing!

I just couldn't keep this to myself. Thanks for letting me share it with you all!

Kelly

Hooray, Kelly! Your patience and courage, and your willingness to communicate clearly with your doctor (who is fortunately willing to communicate with you) have paid off again. Pat yourself on the back.

Eileen- I'm down with that!

Update on the Frova. Today is day 4. Still awesome to have the migaine aborted in the morning! It usually comes back by afternoon/night time. But, I'm still doing a happy dance about the aborting thing!

But, a new twist: I'm starting to have high anxiety/panic attack like stuff going on. I do have issues with other serotonin meds. I cannot take any of the antidepressants because I've had severe reactions from meds in each class: SSRI, SNRI & tricyclic. (The long story short is that I eventually became suicidal.)

I didn't realize triptans had affected serotonin until I had already taken my first dose and was reading the detailed pamphlet inside the box. So, I figured I'd just wait and see what happened.

This afternoon I took a Klonopin that my psych has presribed as needed to treat other anxiety. It knocked me out, but I'm still pretty anxious. I know the anxiety is medication induced and I pretty sure it is from the Frova. I did start the Lyrica the night before I started the Frova so there is a chance it is that. But the Lyrica is still a small dose and I tolerated Topamax (another anti-convulsant for 2 yrs.) And with my history of difficulty with serotonin meds, odds are leaning it is the Frova.

Right now, I'm just going to do a wait and see. I would rather endure side effects than my migriane. But, I don't want to go too far on that point either especially with my past history.

Thanks, Kelly. This is helping me understand my neurologist's unwillingness to try any of the "other" classes of anti-depressants (other than the tricyclic I already take for my esophagus) with me. When I first started taking imipramine, I became severely depressed a few weeks later. Fortunately, the depression was short-lived as my body adjusted to the medication. I simply cannot do without the imipramine; untreated nutcracker esophagus would disable me. But depression that severe would disable me too; I had never conceived of being that severely depressed.

When we discussed preventives initially, my neurologist said that with that history, she wanted to avoid all the other anti-depressants with me. What you've said helps that make sense to me. Although I haven't had any trouble with my Axert. I do hope I never need an anti-depressant for depression!

Hang in there and keep in touch with your doctor.

Thanks Nutcracker, for sharing your experience. I'm glad mine has shed some light on yours. Smiler And I am with you, I hope I never need anti-depressant for depression. But, I am sure they would come up with something. My psych is amazing. He has joked (but I'm sure he's serious) they'd do a sliver of a sliver of a dose. Smiler

Thanks for the encouragement.
