I had a really rough April. My GP was about to send me for an MRA but then we found out my vitamin D level was very low (in spite of taking 1000 IU vitamin D daily).
I went to see my endocrinologist who put me on prescription vitamin D (50,000 IU/week for 8 weeks). I started feeling better after the first week on vitamin D, but now I am feeling *so* much better. I'm having fewer migraines and I'm also less tired and achy. We did up my thyroid dose very slightly, but the last time we tried upping my dose it didn't affect my headache and migraines. So I really think it was the low vitamin D getting me down. I still average about one migraine a month (stupid menstrual migraines), but hey I have meds that work for those. I go back to get my vitamin D re-tested next week, hopefully I can keep my levels up this time. |

I'm glad to hear the vitamin D is helping you! I have found it to help me as well (although I am only doing the 1000 IU).
Low vitamin D is very common in Migraineurs! I was looking for a link for you on this but I can't seem to locate it now (unless it's just my imagination) I am very happy you have seen a difference! I hope it continues to work well for you! I also love my Rx Vitamin D!
The last set of labs showed that without supplementation, I'd have almost zero vitamin D in my system. I just don't stay in the sun, drink anything with extra Vitamin D, or anything else. I've been on the Vitamin D for almost a year now, and my labs came back within the normal range with supplementation... I feel better too. It definitely wasn't instant, but as it built up in my body, it started to kick in, and I definitely notice the difference! Jamie Forum Moderator |

wow eileen that is very interesting about the low Vit. D levels in migranours. If you find that article please let me know!
I have been fighting low D levels for about 6 months now. They had me on 50,000 once a week for 3 months, then stopped for a month then rechecked my levels. I was still very low, so now they have me on 50,000 twice a week for 2 months. Then we will wait aonther month and recheck. So far I have not noticed much change in the fatigue, joint pain or the migraines. I have high iron levels also that they are keeping an eye on. Alanna and Jamie, I am so glad its helping you so much! |

I don't know if this is the article Jaime was talking about, but I just found this article about vitamin D and migraine:
http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/577151 I've also read about low vitamin D being linked to autoimmune disorders (which run in my family) and preeclampsia (which I have had twice). Migraine disease has also been linked to an increased risk of preeclampsia, so it is interesting to me that it might also be linked to low vitamin D. |

I'm a fan of those little green capsules, too. My endo found my osteomalacia through some blood work after she had an "I wonder" moment. I never noticed dramatic changes from taking the vitamin D supplements, but I still know it needed fixing.
