I just started taking 400 mg of vitamin B2 daily and I am having less than half the migraines I had before. I may be able to cut this down even more as I have been testing my triggers such as alcohol and direct sunlight. This is great news since I've lost my health insurance and my meds now cost $20 per pill to abort a migraine. Please consider trying B2 in this high dose if you haven't already. I've had so many good, normal days. I feel amazing. The B2 gives you energy too. It's nice to wake up without a migraine! I am very happy to have finally found something that works. Would love to combine it with something that would totally get rid of my migraines. I am now optimistic!!

Good Morning Mary,

I'm so happy to hear B2 has had such a great impact on your migraines. For me when I started B2 the frequency did not go down, but the intensity of them went way down.

Many of the people on the forum use B2 and additional you might want to talk to your doctor about Magnesium and CoenzymeQ10. Both have helped people, especially with the intensity of their migraines. There are some small studies out using CQ10 as a preventative with good results. I'm taking 600 mg/day of that as my main preventative. My doctor, who is not a migraine specialist, had to be talked into it, but I'm sure glad I did.

I hope you have continued sucess with your treatment. Relief is wonderful to find.

Cindy

Hi MaryO and welcome to the forum family! It's great to have you here. When you have a moment, please check out the Start Here Folder for important information and guidelines about the forum. Also, you may want to take a look at this article too:

Learning About Migraines – Where to Start

I'm glad you're having such great success with B2! That's wonderful! I'm on several supplements myself and always check with my doctor before I add in another one, so I'll have to ask him about B2 at my next visit.

I look forward to seeing more of around the forum. Welcome again!

Smiler Hooray for you! Smiler

I had tremendous luck after just a few short days after I started vitamin B2. Eventually it fizzled on me, but I loved it while it lasted. My only wish when I was taking it was that it came in 400mg capsules, which is the "standard" migraine preventative dose. All I could find it in was 100mg capsules back then, and it was pain juggling four of them every day along with all my other meds.

Hi, Just wanted to let you know, in case you didn't, that since you lost your insurance, you may be able to get your abortive med, and maybe some of your others, if you take any, for free, by contacting the drug manufacturers. They have patient assistance programs for people in situations like yours. You get a form from the drug manufacturer's web site, fill out your part, take it to your doctor, have them fill it out and send it in, and if you qualify, they'll send a 90 day supply of the med to either your doctor or you, free of charge. Some companies send you a card to take to the local pharmacy and the local pharmacy will give you the med for free that way.

I have a friend who gets 24 maxalt shipped to his house every 90 days, direct from the manufacturer, free, because he has no insurance. At 20-25 bucks a pill, that's a big help. He also gets his Topamax for free too, as well as Midrin and a couple other things.

Note, there are some companies that charge a $5 fee per prescription to do the paperwork for you, but no sense in paying that if you can do the legwork yourself. One of the mods sent me a link to help locate the patient assistance programs www.pparx.org. Hope this helps save you some $$.
