Hi all,
I suddenly realized today that I had not logged in to this site in almost 2 months! I knew something was missing... When I left you all in May, I went to Sevilla, Spain, to do dissertation research for a little under a month. The last time I lived in Spain, my migraines were terrible (between the walking in the summer heat, the constant smoking by the population, and working in odd little archives). I had been concerned about going back, since my first stay there had been so incredibly painful. I am happy to report that this trip was 100% better! First, my preventive meds work awfully well these days, and, unlike the last trip to Spain, I have an abortive that can actually stop the migraine. Despite working in the archive 6 hours a day, plus tons of walking, sight-seeing, enduring the ridiculous amounts of cigarette and cigar smoke, and eating foods I don't normally eat, I only had one migraine per week. The first one was mainly due to the 36-hour trip to get there, and the other two were stopped within an hour by the abortive. The trip was amazing, and it was so much better because I felt good! Since then, I've been teaching a class to very unmotivated students at the university. I am sorry that I am hopelessly out of date when it comes to how you all are doing. I pray July is a great month for all of you. It's so nice to be back! ~Rachel |

Wow! I'm so excited to hear all this good news! I'm glad that this trip was So much better than your last trip- and you have a true comparison- and can tell how much better you're doing!
Having an abortive that can actually stop the Migraine is priceless IMHO! Sounds like you were exposed to a lot of triggers, and did really really really well- and the abortive was there when you needed it! Sorry about the unmotivated students... such is summer school, I suppose. Get those classes out of the way so that you can take things that you care about in the fall? That's the way it was when I was in college, anyway... Welcome back! We're glad you're back with us, and I personally can't wait to hear more about Spain! I want to go traveling-but alas, income-deficiency. Jamie Forum Moderator |
