For me, it doesn't make it go away but it is a GREAT distraction during the beginning stages of the migraine. Helps me to know too that my DH loves me even when I am about to be in the midst of an attack. Sometimes that is the most difficult part, the isolation the pain causes.

quote:
One thing worth mentioning is that there have been times when he's curled up on the bed and just cuddled me when I was in pain, and when the pain was too much for that, he has sometimes just laid quietly on the bed, touching me only with a hand on my arm. Sometimes, just touching or just being in the same room can be a way to share intimacy too.

Teri, that is so true. A lot of times, all I need is a kiss, a touch, something to know I am not alone in my world.

Patiance CJ. That's the best advice I can give. Being single, Make sure you don't get invoved with some one who can't deal with you'r unasked for problem's. I'am no one special. I just have A soft heart.
If you want to test A man, Throw some emotion at him. The tough guy's will run like A scared rabbit. The good heart's will understand and respond. Shallow men can't deal with emotion. Be careful. You need some one who care's about you personally. it can make the differance between A succsesful and healing situation, Or one that will just compound you'r problem's.

I think that it may be a side effect. I ran into this problem. How long have you been on the Topa? Sometimes I just make myself do it (I know real romantic, right?) Anyway - if I just do that - it gets easier. But I find that things are not as - oh how do I put this...."well greased"??? LOL So that is an issue - My husband and I can joke about it at least!!!

I also found that I had a problem "getting there" for a while too - which I think was because of the topa. I don't know if any of you watch Sex and the city - But I was Samantha in the O department - now not so much. It's a lot harder for things to get going and to get where they are going to....But good with the bad....less migraines!!! Big Grin

I was on Dopa/Stupidmax (Topamax) for 4 years & believe me my sex life was shot to hell until I discovered..................

KY Jelly. Stuff really works. They even have the kind that heats up inside the vagina. Thumbs Up

As for getting into the mood, I always keep a pitcher of Margaritas in my ice box. Also, fantizing does wonders!!!! He always looks like Brad Pitt or Antonio Bandares during those times. Big Grin

As for knocking da boots during a migraine......THAT is the farthest thing from my mind. If you come near me...... Skillet<----- what will happen to him.

"Migraines are caused by fears about sex. Once I got me a good sex partner and started gettin laid regular I quit having headaches."....some idiot

FYI- the "warming" KY Jelly has some weird chemical that can make sensistive people feel like it's burning. Not a pleasant sensation...

I've had that experience! Will NOT use KY ever again! Even the regular stuff gives me that burning sensation.

I'm so glad that people are discussing this. Orgasms are a huge migraine trigger for me, maybe because my migraines are so hormonal. It puts a big damper on my love life to say the least.

Hey Migraine Chick!

I have found that sometimes orgasm makes migraines better, and sometimes it makes it worse. I KNOW for sure that if I hold my breath or hold back in any way, really, that it gets worse. So I GO FOR IT AND AM VOCAL!

But there is a lot of info out there these guys have about a certain type of migraine that relates to orgasms. I forget what it is. Maybe simeone can help me here. Is it something like vascular hemiplegic migraine, but I'm not sure????

Anyway, I'm really glad you're here. And you are quite right. This is IMPORTANT to talk about.

Arghhhh! I'm sorry to read that. Have you talked to your doctor about this? Sometimes, they can recommend an NSAID or even a triptan to be taken before love making so you don't get triggered.

The generally long periods of time between my Migraines are the result of working with a Migraine specialist to refine my preventive regimen. You can see my current regimen HERE.

CJ,

Nothing I know of that's specific to hemiplegic migraine. Orgasm can trigger an exertionally triggered Migraine -- the type of Migraine you usually get be it Migraine with aura, Mig without aura, HM, whatever. There's also coital headache, which I think is now called primary sex headache or some such name. Looks like it's time for me to write some more articles. Wink
