he National Headache Foundation (NHF) has designated the first week of June as National Headache Awareness Week (NHAW). This year marks the 15th annual observance of NHAW, and the observance falls on June 1 - 7.

NHF Executive Director Suzanne Simons commented,

"We are very happy to be recognizing the 15th annual National Headache Awareness Week. Our theme this year points out the importance of empowering sufferers to recognize that headache is treatable and they can take steps to take control of their condition."

In observance of NHAW, the National Headache Foundation (NHF) is announcing a series of events across the country in order to educate the public about types of headache and their impact on daily living, as well as stressing the importance of seeking an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatments. This year's National Headache Awareness Week takes place June 1-7, 2008. Nearly 21 million people were reached last year through this successful annual campaign.

By "badge," do you mean the START image? Sure.

If you mean the badges in my sig, if you click on the links under them, you can pick up the HTML for them. Using them with the HTML helps spread the word.

Thanks!

I'm sorry , but am I the only person who is really resentful about being lumped in with "headaches"?

I guess any attention to our condition is good. But I just feel like being lumped in with Headache week perpetuates the "oh, its just a bad headache" mentality.

Maybe I just need to stop being so nit-picky.` Roll Eyes

Yes

I agree Katinthecorner. I have suffered with these problems for the last 17 years of my life. I just never had a right diagnosis of migrane because I never complained of just a headache. I zeroed in on the daily vertigo, lack of balance, numbness of limbs , and constant fatigue. Inablitity to determine when this was going to be its worse and lack of a quality of life mattered more than head pain.

A headache is just one symptom, I didn't even realize it was the jackpot winner for diagnosis. Head Banging

The more people are educated about migraines, the better they are able to comprehend - somewhat - of what we actually experience.

Education is the key, and it has to be repeated over and over until people actually "get it".

I have had migraines since I was four, and it is only getting worse as time goes on.

Kat,

No, you're not the only one. You've probably noticed that I'm very careful to distinguish between headaches and Migraines. Migraines are NOT headaches. A headache MAY be one SYMPTOM of a Migraine attack.

The NHF has recently become a nonprofit affiliate of MyMigraineConnection, and their executive director also SharePosted about NHAW, [b][i]HERE. You can comment to her there if you want to.

Thanks Teri...

It felt nice to comment to someone directly instead of griping into the ether.

Here is what I said....

Kat,

I totally agree about commenting directly. It's far more satisfying and, hopefully, more productive. I knew the NHF was joining us as an affiliate, but didn't want to announce it until they were actually posting and ready to accept comments.

Good for you for speaking your mind. I think you know that I totally agree with what you said. Flower
