Thanks, Teri, for more interesting info!

The funny thing about migraine is that the people who love you most ARE able to see this disease--it's certainly not invisible to them!! My family can definitely see in my face and body when I am headed for a tough day! When you live closely with it, migraine is DEFNINTELY easy to see!!

However, you are right--to people who have never experienced this kind of pain, the thought of migraine being debilitating is often ridiculous!! I think most people without migraine disease think of it as simply a headache and don't have a clue about just how painful and life-altering this can be!

This is DEFINITELY a roller coaster ride!!

So true Jenny,

Yet doesn't it seem to get tiresome - to those outside our immediate family- kind of like hide and seek. If they can't see it, it must not be there.

Maybe it is me who is tired, of explaining it over and over again. Then feeling guilty about it.............

Thanks Teri. Love it.

Nancy, you're definitely right! It is a bit tiresome, trying to explain migraine disease to others who don't understand.

I'm dreading the start of the school year (tomorrow). When I show up at the bus stop with my son, looking haggard after a rough night, the other (impeccably dressed, make-up'd) moms ask, "ANOTHER headache?!!!?? Isn't there SOMETHING you can do about it?"

Or they say this one: "Your poor husband--He had to take care of the kids AGAIN last night?!? He's a saint!!" Now I know I have a terrific husband, but do I REALLY need the guilt hidden in their statements????

Sometimes I think it'd be easier for others to understand if I broke out in HUMUNGOUS hives or developed a very noticeable limp or something when migraine hit! Maybe that would show the others that the migraine was REALLY the cause of my haggard appearance, not laziness or lack of concern!!

Jenny,

I'd just tell those Stepford Wives the truth - migraines are not "just headaches", but intractable head pain is a symptom.

Actually, I, personally, would like to be there with you. I'd march up to their simpering little faces and really read them the riot act! I'd probably eat garlic and onions first. Skillet I'd call them "American Kennel Club Registereds", but I don't want to insult my dogs.

I am so fed up with people who choose to not understand! I despise willful ignorance!

Guess that's why I fight so hard for my students?

Rebecca,
You can have all my onions to eat before attempting said task!

The onion-monster is a vicious scary evil monster that will send 'em running for the hills. Big Grin

And yes, the AKC registered breeds appreciate not being invoked for said purpose!

And yes, I can see you fighting incredibly hard for your students... you're a great person, and you stand up for what you feel is right. Great traits to have in a friend. Thumbs Up

Hugs,

Jamie

When I quit talking about my migraines to my mom, she thought I was "cured." That's how invisble they are.

Sometimes I feel guilty about talking about mine so much...It's like my normal blog has turned into this giant whine-fest about my head and body problems.

My mom feels guilty about the PFO. I keep telling her to not be. It's not like she knew. She has access to my blog. So I feel so badly when she reads it, like I know she's thinking about what "could" have been done to "prevent' all of this.

I don't know how else to get it all out, though. Migraine has taken over my life in the attempt to not let it define me. But more often than not I think people are thinking, "God, not again, won't she ever shut up?" Even though they know I'm doing what I can. At what point is it too much? Frowner

You're welcome, Jenny!

Yes, the people who care about are able to see the effects of Migraine disease.

For other people, if they don't see a cast, bruise, wheelchair, or some other outward sign of an illness, it really is invisible.

You're welcome, Nancy, and thank you. It was fun putting that together.

"Tired" isn't strong enough, Nancy! Some days, I want to slip people a nitroglycerine tablet so they'll have a Migraine-like headache and get a taste of Migraine disease!

Blogging and the like is a huge help to "get it all out." Have you thought about a second blog that your mom can't access? Does she come here and read? If she does read the forum, and you need to vent more than you want her to see, don't forget the Special Support Issues folder.

Teri, I don't know. It's difficult for me to keep things from my mom and she's a very intuitive person anyway. My mom and I are almost the spitting image of each other personality-wise, though she's more of a feelings-type than a thinker...Though she is that too. She can always hear the exhaustion in my voice and I am not a very excitable person in the long run, so to me exhaustion and my normal tone are interchangeable. But she's been a mother now for 40+ years, she knows when her kids are down and out.

We are very close and I feel guilty about keeping things from her as well. I don't want her to worry but she'll know anyway. So I'm hung up on what to do.

She knows about the forums and I send her articles to read frequently. If she visits I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised.

As far as the special folder goes, I'd feel bad about "abusing" it every time I needed to cry about my pain or feel like I can't handle my day, even though I know that it's there for that type of thing...I hope that makes sense... Wink
