Migraine

Did you know that a Federal District Court held that withholding Migraine treatment from a prisoner for two weeks may have been cruel and unusual punishment? I wish more people recognized that having to suffer untreated Migraines is cruel and unusual! I'm glad that a Federal court recognized this and that untreated Migraines can't be used as a form of punishment of incarcerated people.

It's interesting to note, though, that without guaranteed medical coverage and prompt treatment available, those of us on "the outside" may be subject to more punishment than those who are imprisoned. Read more here about Withholding Migraine Treatment: Cruel & Unusual

I cannot even imagine not being able to treat a Migraine - let alone have it for two weeks!

What would have happend had this person died from a Migrainous Stroke?

Just thinking of the noise and conditions in a prison makes my head hurt - not to mention not being able to really control the noise, lights, medications available, nothing!

Thank you for bringing this to our attention! It is not something I would have thought of on my own per se, but it is something we need to be aware of!

reading that article makes me kind of... i dunno the word for it... comfortable?? in my current situation... regarding health systems etc.

Here in NZ under the current public health system it is free for emergency and specialist care... although it may not be perfect I can live with it... I may be having problems with my neurologist and not getting the care that I need at the moment it's getting sorted... and I don't have to pay for it... the service it free because it's a public health service...

I just can't get over reading how people are getting seriously ill because they can't afford "health insurance" or they're going bankrupt paying for health services that should be free... these illnesses are not self inflicted... it really blows me away that if people don't cough up the money then they're refused life saving medical care.... what on earth happened to caring for one another... this whole human nature thing?
