I find myself in the position of having to set a new forum policy...
If you want to recommend someone as a Migraine specialist, please email the information to me for approval BEFORE posting it to the forum. Please email me at the email addy in my signature and provide the doctor's full name, full address, and office telephone number. This has become necessary because of someone recommending a doctor only for me to find that there are excellent reasons for this doctor to NOT be recommended. From here on, posts recommending doctors who have not been approved by me in advance will be deleted. Thanks! ![]() Teri Robert Lead Expert, MyMigraineConnection terimmc@helpforheadaches.com

Please help me choose a doctor. I can go see Dr. Urban at Diamond in Chicago or Dr. Henry Hooker at MHNI in Ann Arbor. Or maybe I could get into see Dr. Nissan at Diamond. I have had daily migraines, usually 5 on a 1 to 10 scale for two years. I have seen Dr. Zylobdak in Carmel IN and been treated with Depacon and Keppra infusions multiple times. He thinks it is time to go inpatient as we have exhaused most outpatient options. I would like to try DHE infusion to stop the daily headache so I can see if my preventative (Namenda) is working. Thanks for your help.

Hi, Jenny, and welcome to the forum!
Please take a few minutes if you haven't had a chance and visit our Start Here Folder, where you'll find our policies and helpful information for navigating the forum. Probably we're not the best people to help you choose a specialist, since we don't know your personal medical history, and individual people get along differently with different doctors. One of us might thing a particular doctor is the greatest thing since Wonder Bread, while another might be very disappointed with the same doctor. The only way to know if a doctor is the right fit for you is to see that doctor for yourself. Does Dr. Zylobdak know you'd like to try a DHE infusion? If so, what does he think? If not, you might run the idea past him. You might also ask him if he has any recommendations for a specialist, since he does know your history. I can tell you that it's pretty well known that preventatives don't tend to work well if you're in rebound, or MOH, which can be one cause of daily head pain. Here are a couple of links for you. The first is our listing of specialists, and the other is an article on MOH, which might or might not apply to your case, but is still good to know. Patient Recommended Headache and Migraine Specialists Medication Overuse Headache And...another couple of articles you might be interested in, too... Hey there Jenny-
I am only putting this out here because I know we have already had discussions about this doc on here before. I see Dr. Nissan at diamond. In my opinion he is wonderful! He really listens to what you have to say, any struggles or question, and tries to help with them. He is great at explaining his plan, and just all around wonderful. Very thoughtful and attentive and gives you as much time as you need with your appointments. I have also see Dr. Urban, he was the weekend attending Doc, when I was in the hospital. He is great, too, but I only saw him that saturday and sunday. I am very pleased with the treatment I have recieved at Diamond! I also went to MHNI when I was 16 till I was 18. The doctors there are wonderful also. I saw 2 doc there, but was not getting enough improvement with my pain, so I moved on to Diamond. But my drs at MHNI also listened well and tried hard to come up with a good treatment plan. I think you would be in great hands if you went to either clinic! I also tried to get in to see Dr. Zylobdak when I switched headache clinics, but was told to stick with the specialists, so I went on to Diamond. If you go to either clinic, they have good inpatient treatments. I went in the hospital at my first visit to Diamond and I came out a whole new person in just one week! I hope this info helps some. Good luck on your search! By the way, Carmel is just outside of Indy, isn't it? I am just outside of Ft. Wayne. Nice to see another hoosier around here “Hope is the thing with feathers, that perches in the soul, and sings the tune without words, and never stops at all.” |
