I have HM and wanted to know if other sufferers experience my stabbing pains. I only get the HMs once in a while before my menstrual cycle, however every other day I have a horrible stabbing headache which affects the very base on my neck/head. They switch sides and then when I do have a HM I know what side will become numb due to the side of my head that hurts. Is this normal or just me? Even if you're not a HM sufferer, does anyone have these times of headaches as much as me? They last for hours.

Samantha, what does your doctor say about these pains?

I have migraine attacks like that. Mine also hit both sides of my neck/skull. These respond well to my usual abortive(s) and an ice pack.

If you haven't yet talked with your doctor, though, please, please, call her/him first thing in the morning. An ER doc scared me almost witless once when he told me, after my CT scan was OK that he had it done to rule out a sub-arachnoid bleed.

Please, check with your doctor.

Hi there,

Are these new stabbing pains? Have you had these before? If not, and this is a new symptom, please do as Rebecca suggested and contact your doctor telling him about your new symptoms.

Migraine patterns can change over time, but any new symptoms should be reported to our doctors.

The sharp pains have been going on for months and months so I don't think I am having some kind of internal bleeding thank goodness! I just wish they'd go away. I was wondering if they are normal. It feels like a screw drive in the base of my neck. Frowner

Only your doctor will be able to tell you if these pains are normal or not. We aren't qualified to do that.
